PAGE 6 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Mrs. Marion Brechin of the Consumers Association of Can- ada is undoubtedly a very smart and dedicated woman. Her org- anization does a lot in research and advise to consumers on the products that are for sale in this fair country. However, like almost anyone else, she has a blind spot. Some one with a blind spot who pursues their diea of necessity blindly is called a fanatic on this particular issue. Mrs. Brech- in's blind spot is marketing boards. One can assume that she doesn't see right or wrong as soon as the term is mentioned. Having said as much, I have to support this statement. She claimed in an attack on the new national turkey board, that after the egg borad was formed, the egg prices shot up, and she was right. What she doesn't want to see; is'that the egg price had to go up all egg producers would have been bankrupt by now, and we would be dependent on Am- erican eggs. But American egg prices are higher than ours. So without an egg board the price of eggs would have been higher now than they actually are. Here are some supporting figures, figures that are avail- able to Mrs. Brechin. In August 1973 the egg producer had a profit margin of 4.5¢ dozen. Price to Ontario producers 68-70¢ dozen. U.S. Price 70-82¢ dozen. On January 8, 1974, because of lower feed cost, the productiot cost dropped by 2.40 dozen, the profit dropped to 2.1¢ dozen and the price set by the board to the producer dropped 6¢ dozen to 63¢. This is still 10¢ below the U.S. price, where they have none of Marion's hated market- ing boards. Her claim then that the price didn't come down after feed We build loans cut to measure Whatever may be your need, whatever may be your capacity, when you reach to a mortgage, reach for the sound, friendly mortgaging counsel of the people who have been custom building loans for people like you since 1889. That they didn't drop back to a loss level is only fair to the egg producer Lutheran Women The Lutheran Church Women held their first meeting of the new year at the Blue Water Rest Horne, with the executive, Mrs. C. Deichert, Mrs. H. Hohner, Mrs. C. Willert and Mrs. J. Haberer in charge. The meeting was in the form of a birthday party for the resi- dents. With Mrs. Jack Turkheim at the piano the residents joined in the singing of hymns and old tyme favourites. The children of the Sunday School sang a few numbers. Sandra and Michael Coleman played a piano duet, Margaret Deichert played a duet with Mrs. Turkheim. The Earl Reichert family delighted the residents with a few old tyme numbers. Douglas Klopp played a piano solo. The residents with birthdays during January were presented with gifts. A birthday cake was served for lunch. A brief busin- ess meeting followed in the boar( rooms with the president Mrs. C. Deichert presiding. The next meeting will be the annual workathon on Tuesday, February 12. All ladies of the church are asked to come and help. A pot luck supper will be served. A BREATH -TARING SPECTACLE OF WILD SPLENDOR AND FURY!
