Mr. and Mrs. Ed McBride have returned home from Sault Ste. Marie. Sympathy is expressed to Mrs. Gerald Johnson in the loss of her father, Harold Hugill. In other business, county council agreed that when a coun- cillor must attend a meeting in the day time as well as another meeting at night, the rate of $32 will be paid for the night meeting. Women elect officers The Women's Missionary Christmas meeting of Carmel Presbyterian Church ladies was held Monday evening in the church with the president Mrs. Rachel Schwalm presiding and opening with a Christmas Pray- er and poem entitled "0 Lord You were Born." Mrs. Harry Snell, Mrs. Earl Campbell, assisted by Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth, gave the Christ- mas devotion. During this dev- otion, three candles were lit, one each for faith, hope and love. Several Christmas hymns -were sung and scriptures were read from Luke and John. The roll call with fourteen members was answered with a Christmas verse. Reports on the year's work were given by heads of the committees. Mrs. Rach- el Schwalm presented Mrs. Myrtle Orr with a gift as she is leaving the Carmel Church and will be going to an Exeter Church in the future. UCW A short business meeting of the Hensall United Church Women was held in the Fellow- ship Hall Monday evening. President Kay Mock presided. The roll call was taken in units Unit I - 14 members, Unit II 19 members and Unit IV- l2 members. Correspondence was read from the Children's Aid Society, Five Oaks Christian Workers Center, Alma College and a letter from Camp Menesetung thanking for the donation. A gift was presented to Kay Mock by Mildred Kyle as a tangible expression of appreciation for her services as president during the past year. The treasurer's report was given by Doreen Spencer and annual reports by Helen Scane for friendship and visitation, Ann Brock for social functions, Pearl Erratt for supply and Wel- fare, Mary Goodwin for finance Committee. Donations were given to the Victor Home for girls, Five Oaks, Children's Aid Society, Overseas Relief and Alma College. It was dec- ided to buy cord to knit band- ages for Angola. The nominating committee report was given by Elva Forrest. Following the adjournment of the business meeting, memb- ers and guests assembled in church sanctuary for the Christ- mas meeting. The church was beautifully decorated for Christ- mas by Mrs. Robert Reaburn and Unit II members. Guests were ladies from Chiselhurst U.C.W. and Emmanuel United Church, Zurich. Helen Goddard presided at the organ playing the carol "Hark the Herald Angels Sing." Unit 1V were in charge of the worship, which opened with president Kay Mock reading two verses of Hark the Herald Angels Sing and extending a welcome to members and guests. Mrs. Tamuc At Allicter chaired the worship service. Mrs. Pearl Erratt, Mrs. Nan Britton and Mrs. Rowe read verses of script- ure followed each time by a Christmas carol. A playlet "The Visited Planet" was acted out with Mrs, Britton and Mrs. Erratt acting the part of angels. They were assisted by Mrs. Kinghorn, Mrs. Rowe and Mrs. McAllister. The off- ering was taken up by Mrs. Riley, Mrs.sPurdy, Mrs. Parke and Mrs. Harburn. Kay Mock read "Christmas and the Christ Child, " keeping Christ in Christmas and His Love in our homes. Unit I were in charge of the program. It Carne Upon the Midnight Clear was sung, followed by an organ and piano duet by Mrs. Delbert Geiger and Mrs. John Goddard. Mrs. Marilyn Zivkovic of Exeter sang two lovely solos and Janis Bisback and Gail Travers sang two lovely duets.
