Lutheran Women Christmas meeting
Christmas Latin American
Style was the theme for the
Christmas meeting of the Luth-
eran Church Women. Mrs. A.
Blackwell, Miss Inez Yungblut
Mrs. E. Flaxbard and Mrs. A.
Finkbeiner were the committee
in charge. Christmas candles
and a manger scene helped dep-
ict the Christmas season here anc
in Latin America. In Latin
America the outside cultural
influence came from Spain or
Portugal, whereupon it mingled
with the native Indian cultures
in a way that created a new and
quite marvelous blend. This
mixture of cultures helped create
the spirit of Christmas which
combines a pious reverence
and devotion on the one hand,
along with a carnival like
gaiety on the other.
The members took part in
the "Litany of Las Pasadas. "
Each member carried a lighted
candle and half represented the
Pilgrims and the other half the
innkeepers. Latin American
food was served for lunch.
Mexican Coffee and Bunuelos
with Rosca de Reyers (King's
Cake) served next. Delicious
pecan candy finished off the
delicious lunch. The meeting
ended with a Pinata party.
A short meeting was conduct-
ed by the president Mrs. C.
Deichert, She thanked the
members for their donations of
clothes, toys and money for the
Children's Aid. All donations
for the Good -Cheer boxes are to
be left at the parsonage or
church by 2 p.m. Saturday,
December 15. A gift of money
was given to the church treasury.
Rev. L. Kalbfleisch acted as
chairman for the annual meet-
ing.
Mrs. William Lawrence gave
a report of the nominating com-
mittee. The executive for the
corning year is as follows:
President, Mrs. C. Deichert;
secretary, Mrs. C. Willert;

president's report for the year
and also thanked everyone for
their co-operation. Mrs. Hob-
ner thanked the retiring secret-
ary, Mrs. Willert and treasurer,
Mrs. G. Hess. Mrs. Deichert

Two housekeepers were talking
over their problems of work. One
said, "This lady I work for says I
should warm the plates for our
dinner guests. But that's too
much work. I just warm hers,
and she never knows the dif-
ference."
