CHRISTMAS MEETING
The annual meeting of the
St. Paul's Anglican Church
Women was held Thursday aft-
ernoon at the home of Mrs.
F. Forrest, with the president,
Mrs. G.A. Anderson presiding.
The meeting opened with the
members prayer. Christmas
Hymns were sung, followed by
prayers and readings from the
Loving Message. Roll call was
answered with Christmas poems.
Flowers were to be purchased
for the sick and shut-ins for
Christmas.
Rev. G.A. Anderson presided
over the election of officers.
They are as follows, president,
Mrs. G.A. Anderson; first vice
president, Mrs. D. Windover;
second vice president, Mrs. F.
Forrest; secretary, Mrs. E.J.
Roberts; treasurer, Mrs. R.H.
Middleton. It was decided that
meeting will be held in the
afternoons for the winter months.
The meeting closed with prayer.
UNITED CHURCH NOTES
Rev. Don Beck preached on
the sermon topic "In Lonely Ex-
ile Here, " for the Advent II
service in Hensall United Church
Sunday morning. John McAllis-
ter lit the second Advent candle.
The choir sang the anthem "The
Winter Rose, " under the directioi
of Mrs. Turkheim. Next Sunday
morning will be the White Gift
Service and Sunday School sess-
ions will be cancelled, as the
Children's choir will,be taking
part in the service. The evening
service will be a special Christ-
mas Carol service with the Youth
choir taking part.
UNIT IV MEETING
Unit IV of Hensall United
Church Women met on Thursday
afternoon for their Christmas
meeting. Mrs. McAllister read
"What a wonderful season of the
year" and gave the devotional
from Luke, "The name of God."
She said that the real Christmas
gives a new power and direction
to our living. Mrs. Britton gave
very wonderful thoughts for be-
fore Christmas and to continue
News of Varna
The December meeting of the
United Church Women was held
last Wednesday in the form of
a pot- luck dinner at the home
of Mrs. Bob Taylor in Clinton.
There were 25 members and five
visitors present. Everyone enj-
oyed their variety meal.
The worship service was int-
roduced by the playing of a
Christmas record which led the
singing of the Carols, and
continued with the reading and
singing of the Christmas Story.
Mrs. Mervyn Johnston read a
poem "Christmas is More"
followed by a prayer. Mrs. Louis
Taylor received the offering
and it was dedicated by Mrs.
William McAsh. The story
throughout the year when she
spoke on "Things we must make
room for." Mrs. Pym was host-
ess and took up the offering
which was dedicated by Mrs.
McAllister. Mrs. Sherritt gave
the treasurer's report and Christ-
mas hymns were sung.
Stanley McGill, of Killarney,
Manitoba, visited last Thursday
with his cousin, Mrs. Albert
Alexander.
"Amberlie" from the Observer
was read by Mrs. Bob Stirling.
The president Mrs. Ralph
Stephenson then conducted the
business meeting. Minutes were
read and the roll call was answ-
ered by a donation to the Child-
ren's Aid Society. Mrs. M.
Johnston read several thank -you
notes. The treasurer's report
was given by Mrs. Bob Webster,
Mrs. John Ostrom gave an
account regarding Allocations.
There were sixty-one calls
made to sick and shut-ins.
Boxes will be packed for sick
and shut-ins., on December 17
at Mrs. Ida McClinchey's.
The Christmas concert of
Varna and Goshen Churches will
be held in the township hall on
December 20. The report of
officers for the following year
was given by the nominating
committee are as follows; Past
president, Mrs. Ralph Stephen-
son; presidents, Mrs. William
Dowson, Mrs. Chas. Reid, Mrs.
Charles Kalbfleisch, Mrs.
Mervyn Hayter. each one
presiding fot the three months.
Vice president, Mrs. Thomas
Consitt; secretary, Mrs. Harvey
Hayter, treasurer, Mrs. Bob
Webster; recording secretary,
Mrs. Ida McClinchey; group
leaders, Group one, Mrs. Bob
Webster, Mrs. Doug McAsh;
Group two, Mrs. George Wilson;
Group three, Mrs. Bev Hill,
Mrs. Ivan McClymont.
Gifts were presented to Mrs.
Perce Johnston who has moved
to Bayfield and to Mrs. Bob
Taylor who is now residing in
Clinton, Mrs. Bob Stirling clos-
ed the meeting with the poem
"An Adult sign for Christmas"
A white Gift Service will be
held in the United Church next
Sunday, December 16. The off-
ering will go to the Retarded
Children Fund.
At a meeting last week L.O.L
1035 set up a committee to
again operate the skating rink
as soon as weather permits.
The sympathy of the commun-
ity goes to the members of the
Boyce family in their recent
bereavement.
A canvass for the Canadian
Bible Society has been held
during the past month if anyone
has been missed please leave
your donation at McAsh's store
or with the secretary Fred Mc-
Clymont.
