Zurich Fliers win two
The Zurich Flyers came up
with more big victories, while
losing their first contest of the
season, during the past week's
action in South Huron Hockey
League. Last Thursday night in
Thedford they had little trouble
romping to an easy 8-0 victory
over the Arkona squad, then on
Sunday afternoon they lost the
first time this season to the
t Shipka Bears, 5-3. On Monday
night they carne up with another
easy win over Huron Park, 8-5,
on the latter's home ice.
In Arkona two players, Kevin
McKinnon and Richard Schilbe
both blinked the red light twice
to lead the Flyers to their one-
sided victcry. Single markers
were registered by Bob Farquhar,
Ron Corriveau, Pat Bedard and
Paul Corriveau.
The, locals went ahead 3-0
in the first period, and added
five more big goals in the sec-
ond. The third period was score-
less.
A total of 10 penalties were
handed out in the game, with
each team drawing five minors.
Paul Corriveau was lost to
the club for a couple of weeks
when he suffered a leg injury in
the game.
SHIPKA 5 - ZURICH 3
Two unanswered goals in the
third period was the big differ-
ence on Sunday afternoon when
the Flyers lost their first game
this season, to the Shipka Bears
last year's South Huron League
champions.
Richard Schilbe and Ron
Corriveau both scored once in
the first period, when the locals
took a 2-1 lead. Bill Hoffman
scored the Shipka marker.
Two big goals to one for
Zurich tied the score for the
Bears in the second stanza,
with Stan Lovie and Jim Guenth-
er being the marksmen. Ron
Desjardine found the range for
the Zurich crew.
13111 Hoffman scored his sec-
ond goal of the game in the
third period to give Shipka
their margin of victory, and
then Shane Burley blinked the
red light for the winners midway
through the period for an insur-
ance marker.
Twelve penalties were hand-
ed out in the game with nine
of them going to the Shipka
'rew and three to Zurich

crew an early first -period lead
on Monday night, the Flyers
roared back to tie the score at
4-4 by the end of the second.

Bob Merner sparked the Zurich
attack in their win, with three
big goals for the hat trick,
Kevin McKinnon chipped in
with two, while Ron Desjardine
Richard Schilbe and Ron Rader
each scored one.
With the score tied 4-4 at
the end of the second stanza,
Merner scored twice in a row to
give the Flyers a 6-4 lead, A
few minutes later, however,
the HP crew came back to life

The worship service for the
November meeting of the United
Church Women of Emmanuel
Church was led by Mrs. Claire
Geiger, opening with the hymn,
"0 Master of the Working world.
Mrs. Geiger read a poem,
"November Days" and led in
prayer.
The men of the church were
invited to the meeting since the
special guests were Mr. and
Mrs. Percy Rowe, of Bolton,
former residents of Zurich and
members of this church at that
time. They gave a very splend-
id account illustrated with slides
of a guided tour around the
world, which they took in Jan-
uary and part of February, trav-
elling 27, 000 air miles in 30
days.
On behalf of the group Mrs.
Geiger thanked Mr. and Mrs.
Rowe for corning and showing
their pictures with the UCW.
Miss Ethel Gabel presided for
the business. Anyone wishing
to purchase a church calender
for $1.00 was asked to sign their
name on the bulletin board.
The visiting committee for
September reported 16 visits
and for October, 53 visits.
Invitations were accepted to
Goshen on November 15, Hensall
United on December 3, and
Bayfield on December 6. For
this reason it was agreed to have

On Thursday, November 22,
the girl's floor hockey team
of Zurich Public School, defeat-
ed the Hensall Public School
girl's team. The score was 3-1,
The first two goals were
scored by Pam O'Brien, assisted
by Jullie Brown. The third goal
was scored by Kim Flay, assist-
ed by Deryl Rawlings.

BOYS' FLOOR HOCKEY

The boys of Zurich Public
School on Thursday, Novemb-
er 22, played Hensall and won.
Roger O'Brien, Paul Haggitt
and Jim Oesch each banged in
one to beat them 3-0.
The players of the Zurich
floor hockey team are: Jim
Oesch, Paul Haggitt, Glenn
Zirk, Bill and Larry Pole, David
Turnbull, Wayne Hamather,
Jack Forrester, Raye Widrick,
Grant Love, Roger O'Brien, Ken
Oesch, Jeff Forrester, Tom
Keenan, Erich Freiter and Doug
Deichert. Everyone tried to get
a goal, but only three people
were that lucky.
