Sewer service
nears completion
in Zurich
The sanitary sewer system
in the Village of Zurich, is
nearing completion and private
hook-up will soon be permitted.
Before anyone can hook up to
the sewer service that is install-
ed at the street line, each prop-.
erty owner must obtain a "Lat-
eral Sewer Connection Permit."
This permit must be obtained
before any work is undertaken.
The permit is obtainable at the
Municipal Office and may be
picked up by your contractor..
The Village requires that an
inspection fitting be placed at
the street line and that a riser
pipe be installed to ground level
This inspection fitting will be
supplied by the Village and the
cost of same is included in the
permit fee which is $15.
Each new service must be
inspected by the Village prior
to back filling the trench. This
inspection is for the home own-
er's protection in the event
that trouble is experienced later
on.
It is also very important that
the exact measurements are
obtained when the service is
installed to enable the owner
to locate his service in later
years.
The exact date that services
may be connected is not set at
this time, but when this date is
determined everyone will be
notified.
If anyone has any specific
inquiries they may call the
Municipal Office, at 236-4303.

Bayfield council discuss bumps
(by Milvena Erickson)
At the regular meeting of
Bayfield village council Monday
evening a request was received
from C. Archibald, Administ-
rator of Huronview, asking for
names of villagers over the age
of 65 years so they (Huronview)
may institute a program so that
some of their residents who are
without families in the area,
may have daily telephone cont-
act with persons outside the
home.
Council also received an ans-
wer from the Ministry of Transp-
ortation and Communications
regarding a request for inform-
ation on speed deterrents to be
built into new pavement. This
information was requested by
council in September, following
a letter and petition by several
residents on Tuyll St. As coun-
cil has no information on this
subject they contacted the Min-
istry in Stratford and received,
the following reply "Bumps in a
roadway can usually be driven
over by slow and cautious driv-
ers. However, the speeders, for
which the bumps were placed,
could very easily lose control
of their vehicles resulting in a
very serious collision problem."
A request from the St. John's
Ambulance Corps for financial
assistance was filed. A letter
from the M.T. and C. stated
that approval had been given to
the amendment to the Traffic
By -Law to add three yield signs.
The reeve reported that app-
roval of the area for the Beach
Management Agreement had
been received, and a map out-
lining the area was viewed by
council members.
A letter from Jack Pounder
was received with an attached
petition containing 25 signatures

ent Federal regulations govern-
ing automobile exhaust emiss-
ions. He said control devices
installed in automobiles which
increase gasoline consumption
may be desirable or necessary
in some parts of North America
but they are unnecessary in some
parts, maybe all of Canada.
He indicated that they may
make sense at the corner of King
and Bay streets, in Toronto but
they are something that we
simply cannot afford while we
have an energy problem.
