Zurich Citizens News, 1972-11-09, Page 16PAGE 16 'ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1972 On Sunday at 1:15 a.m. , a car driven by John Hodgert, Kirkton, skidded out of control on concession 2-3 of Stephen Township and collided with a hydro pole. Total damage was estimated at $600. by Constable Dale Lamont. On Tuesday at 4 a.m. a truck driven by Leonard Agar, London, struck a pony owned by Donald Gaiser, Dashwood. The collision occurred on Highway 88 west of Dashwood. The pony was killed, Damage was estimated at $225. by Constable Bill Glassford, On Friday at 11.45 p.m. a car driven by Catherine Mc- BAYFIELD SENIOR CITIZENS Bayfield Senior Citizens held their November meeting, Fri- day evening in the Municipal Building. The meeting presided over by the president, Clair Merner, with 2 8 members present; opened by singing the National Anthem and repeating the Lord's Prayer in unison. The minutes were read by the secretary, Mrs. R.J. Larson and approved. Mrs. Bill Parker gave the treasurer's report and approval was given to pay the outstand- ing bills. It was explained by the president, Mr. Merner, that he would be happy to, answer any questions regarding Senior Cit- izens units which we are int- erested in having the Govern- ment build in Bayfield. Ile thought maybe some people believed that the taxes would be increased and these units would be a burden on the tax- payer; which would not be the case. Twenty-five new song books were received and a sing -song was thoroughly enjoyed. The meeting adjourned and a few games of euchre were played. Prize winners were Mrs. Carrie Heard and Mrs. Ida Menerey, Mr. Lindsay Smith and Mr. Walter Westlake, the lone hand prize went to Mr. Harry Baker. Carthy of Guelph collided with a bridge on Sideroad 5, west of Conc. 4-5 of Stephen Township. The driver was taken to South Huron Hospital by Hoffman's Ambulance and was admitted for treatment of head injuries, Damage was estimated at $1, 900. by Constable Don Mason. A car operated by Michael O'Leary, of London sustained $1, 500 damage when it skidded out of control on Concession 0-7, Stephen Township, early Saturday morning. No injuries were reported although the car rolled over on its roof. Const- able Allan Quinn investigated. An 11.00 p. nt. , single car mishap on Saturday resulted in $2400. damage to a vehicle driven by Rayniond Thompson of Centralia. The Thompson auto left highway 4, north of Centralia and struck a fence owned by Hugh Rundle, Const- able Don Mason investigated. A car stolen from Zurich last Saturday was recovered by Sea - forth Police on October 31. The vehicle was returned to the owner, Ronald Corriveau, of Zurich. Hallowe'en night activities were kept at a minimum by area youths resulting in a relatively quiet evening for police and property owners. A car owned by Ken Mason, of Huron Park was painted with a spray bomb while parked near the Dufferin Hotel in Centralia. Several buildings in the village were also painted with graffitti by the sante group. Confectionary goods valued at $17. were taken when the Derby Dip Drive -In was forcibly entered last week. On Thursday night at Huron Park the Flyers had little trouble with the College team as they downed them 6-4, and then in the local ice palace on Sunday afternoon they posted a 5-3 win over Iluron Park. On Friday night the Flyers play the Shipka (Dashwood) Bulldogs in the Zurich Arena, and then on Sunday afternoon the big exhibition game is scheduled between the Zurich 0 For Christmas me crew, last years SHLL champs and the Exeter Hawks, last year's Junior D champions. Game time is 2 p.m. In the Friday night game at Huron Park the Flyers were paced by Ron Desjardine and Glen Overholt, with two goals each. Single markers were registered by Gerald Shantz and Ron Corriveau, The Flyers scored three un- answered goals in the first period, and then added one more in the second while the College boys banged in two. In the third stanza the Zurich crew again scored twice, while holding their opponents to a single counter. Zurich drew five minor pen- alties, while the college had only three, Playing shorthanded on Sun- day afternoon at home, the Flyers were led by Dick Bedard and Glen Overholt with two goals each, while Fred Lamb accounted for the fifth marker. The two teams divided a pair of first period goals, and then in the second the locals banged in three while holding the Huron Park squad to one tally. In the third period the teams each scored once. A total of six penalties were called against the Flyers in the contest, while the Huron Park six sat out two minors.
