A large number from this
district attended the grand
supper served by the ladies at
the Hillsgreen Presbyterian
Church on Monday evening.
Hallowe'en passed off with
the usual amount of pranks beings
committed by the younger gen-
erations, While the youngsters
were 1 out playing tricks, the
older people of the area were
attending a meeting of the
Women's Christian Temperance
Union at the Zurich Town Hall.
The Masonic Hall, which is
being built over the Davis block
in Hensall, is nearing complet-
ion and will be a very fine one,
right up to date.
Roy Webber is re -opening a
harness and general repair shop
in the Murdock block at Hen-
sall , and it is believed Ross
Dick is opening up a barber
shop in the Davis block. This
will mean two businesses for
the village of Hensall.
The cider mill and jam
making facilities at the F.C.
Kalbfleisch establishment in

Zurich are now in full operation,
and people are coming from a
great distance to have their
apple butter made.
An investigation of the cost
of coal to the consumer was
carried out by the council of
the village of Exeter, when it
was reported coal was more
expensive there than in any
surrounding villages.
40 Years Ago
Mr. O'Brien the local prod-
uce dealer stated that geese
and ducks wholesale on Toronto
market are at present worth
around eight and ten cents,
while chickens are about the
same. It is expected that
these prices will hold over the
Yuletide season so with a little
bit of money one can enjoy a
tasty fowl dinner.
The auction sale of farm,
stock and implements on the
farm of Sovereign Ducharme,
on the 14th concession on
Monday, was well attended,
but owing to prevailing condit-
ions one can imagine, that
prices were extremely low.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Yungblut,
bridal couple, are now nicely
settled in the cosy apartment
in the Deitz block.
W.R. Davidson of Hensall,
has just unloaded a car of Pet-
roleum Coke which has been
off the market for several
months. Mr. Davidson is fort-
unate in being able to secure
this Great Fuel and expects to
have it on hand from now on.
Mr. John McKinley, of
Clinton, is visiting with his son,
Elgin on the Goshen Line north,
25 Years Ago
Norman Long, of Kippen,
mail courier of R. R.2, is a
very lucky man. On Saturday,
while tripping a hay fork load-
ed with beans at the track in
his barn, he lost his balance
and fell 25 feet with the bundle
of beans in the mow. He was
buried up to his head in beans.
X-rays taken showed that all
he suffered was a broken bone
in his ankle.
A nice shower of rain greeted
these parts on Sunday, and was
very welcome. The ground had
been too dry for ploughing up
until this time.
A reception for Mr. and Mrs.
William McLean, nee (Margaret
MacGregor), of Exeter, was
held in the Hensall Town Hall
last Wednesday night, and an
extra large crowd of friends and
relatives were in attendance.
The Clinton Band, under the
direction of A.C. Robinson,
presented a concert in the
Hensall Town Hall on Sunday
evening.
The streets in the village of
Zurich are being greatly imp-
roved with the addition of new
sidewalks. The work is being
done by M. Corriveau and Son,
and is of a very good quality.
The new garage being built
by Howard Klopp just east of
Hess Electric is making a very
good progress, with the first
storey almost complete.

Miss Selma Doehn, of Kitch-
ener is spending a few weeks
at the home of her sister, Mrs.
Gerald Gingerich, who has ret-
urned from Clinton Public Hosp-
ital, after having an operation.
With the closing of last week
the cold polar air from the
north finally did push down up-
on us, and by Sunday morning
a light blanket of snow with
cold atmosphere was in our
midst.
Judge Frank Fingland of God-
erich, conducted a sitting of
the Tenth Division Court in the
Zurich Town Hall last Wednes-
day.
Brother Robert Mittleholtz, of
Jesuit Movitate, Guelph,. Ontari
spent Sunday at the home of
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Mittleholtz.
The E.Y.F. of Emmanuel
Evangelical U.B. Church met
on Tuesday November 12, with
Miss Erla Hay in charge of the
program.
Parr Line Forum met at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Coleman. The subject for dis-
cussion was Farm Credit,

On Friday, the Honourable
John Robarts, Prime Minister
of Ontario, appointed as Min-
ister of Highways, Hon. Charles
S. MacNaughton, MPP for Hur-
on. Mr. MacNaughton succeeds
Hon. W.A. Goodfellow, who
will remain in the cabinet as
Minister without Portfolio,
Charles Mac Naughton was first
elected in 1958, and was re-
elected in the general election
of 1959.
The board of trustees of the
Hay Township School Area
have offered to sell the clos-
ed school No 4 (Bronson Line)
to the Evangelical U.B. Church,
Zurich, for the sum of $100.
Reg Black and V .L. Becker,
representing the Hay Municipal
Telephone System, attended
the annual Telephone Convent-
ion in Toronto on Thursday and
Friday of last week,
Dr. and Mrs. A.J. Addison,
of Clinton, were Sunday visitors
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
James Parkins.
Mr, and Mrs. Urban Pfile
have purchased the property in
Zurich owned by Albert Bedour,
who is presently residing in
Goderich. The home is occup-
ied at present by Mr. and Mrs.
Irvin Playfoot.

Mrs. Arthur Truemner„ of
Toronto, a sister-in-law of
Mrs. Milne Rader, Zurich,
passed away on Saturday. Fun-
eral service was held in Toronto
on Tuesday.
