News of Varna UNITED CHURCH WOMEN The November meeting of the United Church Women was held in the basement of the church last Thursday evening with twenty-one members pres- ent. The meeting was opened with a poem, "Why Wear a Poppy, " read by Mrs. Gordon Johnston. Group two was in charge of devotions, led by Mrs. A. Mustard, who read the selection "Church in your hone.' The offering was taken by Mrs. Harvey Hayter and dedic- ated by Mrs. Mustard. Mrs. Mervyn Hayter gave two reading: The business period followed . Mrs. Gordon Johnston read the minutes and the roll call. Mrs. Ida McClinchey read the cor- respondence which included an invitation to the Holmesville bazaar. There were forty-five calls made to the sick and shut- ins during October. A donation of $15. was made to the Children's Aid Society, at Goderich, and a donation of bath towels to the Rescue Mission of London, It was decided to again hold a Christmas concert next month. The meeting was closed by a prayer by Mrs. A. Mustard. Lunch was served by Mrs, Bob Taylor, Mrs. John Ostrom and Mrs. A. Mustard. A Remembrance Day Service will be held in the United Church next Sunday, November 12, followed by the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph. Mervyn Keys of Winnipeg, Man.
