Ontario farmers have found
that by using grain preservatives
for High moisture corn they have
simplified storage and reduced
labor costs. One of tate keys to
success with organic acid preser-
vatives is their safe application,
says Don Brown, co-ordinator of
Public Relations, for the Farm
Safety Association.
"These organic acid preserv-
atives are safe and easy to use.
Generally a farmer does not
come into direct contact with
rhe preservatives. But, it makes
sense to take safety precautions
just in case, " he points out.
Manufacturers' instructions on
proper clothing should be ob-
served carefully. Organic acids
will burn skin on contact and
can damage your eyes. Operat-
ors should wear rubber gloves
and boots nd long-sleeved
clothing. For eye protection
goggles should be worn, If you
are splashed with rhe preservat-
ive, wash off immediately with
plenty of cool water and consult
your doctor.
Breathing fumes from treated
grain may he dangerous, Wear
a respirator if it is necessary to
enter the storage bin.
The 1.. T, l'. program was dis-
cussed and it was felt consider-
ation should be given to repairs
and additons ro the. steps leading
ro the beach; liner cans, clearly
marked and placed in strategic
location ie., along Main Sr.,
around the Arena and Agricult -
ural grounds, around Clan
Gregor Square and the North
and South sides of the river:
also tree planting and pruning
and rehabilitation; and other
ideas to he brought forth at the
next meeting.
Airs, Jo -an Bullen approached
council regarding residential
property being used as commer-
cial with no change in the zon-
ing by-law, and asked what pro-
tection residents had in a resid-
ential zone, It was stated that
the particular property to which
site was referring was given
tentative permission on a yearly
basis by council until such time
as re -zoning could be heard at
0 public meeting, with those
residents affected within -knit'
of the proposed re -zoning voic-
iui their opinions.
Council at this point adjourn-
ed to form the arena board cont -
mission, with F.E. i\lcFadden
in the chair, and members of
the hoard, Ted Gozzard, Don
Warner, Gordon Graham, Don
Johust0u and E,1\ , Odd leifson,
to hear a delegation of approx-
intalel) ladies questioning,
tine reasons behind the sudden
closing of the arena for roller
skat til:', "I'IhL chairman explain-
ed that the ratan who had been.
hired to look after the roller
slating had resigned after a
series of episodes in wlilelt three
or four young fellows had gen-
erally acted up and made it
impossible to operate. the roller
skating, h) inti:rlcrriug with
the younger skaters, using vile
language and becoming abusive
10 himself. The ladles felt that
Ilse majority of the children
were being penalized by the
misdeeds of a few and felt it
very unfair.
The chairman asked for sug-
gestions and a few were put
forth, one. of whtichh was 10
advertise and try to (tire a 111011 -
ager to look after the arena, as
they fell the days of volunteer
labour were over.
Following tine delegations
departure, council resumed thci

both the north and south sides
of Cameron St. A motion was
passed regarding any paving of
driveways connecting to village
streets, which will require a
permit and a plan to be submit-
ted to council.

eral traffic by-law 64, to add
