ed in the many development
projects of Saudi Arabia as well
as equipping and training its
armed forces.
It should be pointed out that
this is not the first time the
Arab countries tried to punish
the United States and other
western countries, notably Gt.
Britain and Germany, for their
supposed support of Israel. They
tried it shortly after the 1967
war and their efforts fell flat
after a couple of months. The
temptation to try something
agaim must be pretty strong
right now and, in addition, this
time the Saudi Arabians are in-
volved. Last time they were
noticeably absent.
The fly in the ointment is
that the Americans, oil or no
oil, can only do so much and
this does not include giving the
Arabs what they really want.
Keeping that in mind, Faisal
might well opt for a more mod-
erate course of action. Whatever
path he chooses to follow, there
is bound to be a great deal of
intense haggling. About all we
can do is watch with our fingers
crossed.
