The Dashwood Women's Institute started the fall season with the Education and Cultural Activities group in charge and Mrs. Leroy Gowanlock, conven- or. The Brownies entertained the ladies with their exercises and songs. They also had dances and piano solos. Mrs. Gowan - lock stated that since the W.I. had sponsored the group it was only fitting that they should show the ladies what they had been doing. Roll call was answered by stating what you would do first if your house was on fire. The topic "Operation Red Ball" was taken by Leroy Gowanlock and Chris Martin. Mr. Gowanlock distributed Red Balls to the ladies and discussed their use. To date they are used in Bruce County but very little in Huron County. They are plac- ed in the window where a child or invalid sleeps and this aids the firemen at the time of a fire. Their use has been discour- aged because some think they help burglars. Mr. Martin showed a film on fires which should make us all more alert. Vice-president, Mrs. Ray Rader, dealt with the business. There were 12 members present and 22 visitors. Martha Miller and Mrs. Hilda Rader were ap- pointed delegates to the fall rally at Centralia College, Exeter Fair and the W.I. exhib- it were discussed with two ladies in charge. Inter 1 Scene (by Raymond Cannon) OIL - THE ARABS' BIG CLUB I don't know how many people know who King Faisal is but, if they don't, they had better get used to the name because it is one that is going to be mentioned with increasing freq- uency in the months to come. Faisal is King of Saudi Arab- ia, the country that supplies more oil to North American refineries than any other Arab nation. Not only does he supply more now but the percentage he does ship is going to increase, barring some unforseen incid- ent, every year until the 1980's. Up until just recently Faisal was keeping pretty aloof from the Israeli -Arab conflict. Ho* - ever, lately he has started to become more partisan and, through his oil minister, has inferred that he may be about to use his country's oil as a weapon in the Arab struggle to OPEN ABLY BREAKFAST & LUNCH 8 a.m. to 130 p.m. DINNERS MONDAY TO FRIDAY 5 to 8:30 p.m. SATURDAY 5:30 to 8:30 p. m. More precisely he has suggested that any -plan- ned increase in the production of oil would depend on the American government showing more sympathy for tate Arab position and a greater readiness to put pressure on the Israeli government to withdraw from the bulk of the Arab territories it now holds. There has been the expected angry reaction of American Jews but there is perhaps more method than madness in Faisal's change of heart. The fact is that the king would like to put Libya's Colonel Qaddafi in his place. He believes that Arab unity has no real meaning unless Saudi Arabia and not Libya is at the centre of it all. Faisal knows that, if he is to have the Arab world look to him for leadership, it must be obv- ious that he is doing something positive. The way Qaddafi has been throwing his weight around recently, Faisal has just cause to be concerned that the mercur- ial Libyan colonel is stealing his thunder. At the same time Faisal is currying favor with the Arab world, he has to keep in mind how much American butter there °.s on the bread he is buttering, The Americans are deeply invoh (continued on page 16) REDIMIX CONCRETE IALSO FORM WORK) McCann Const.
