Rural youths
enjoyed visits
to cities
It's not usually difficult to
convince a city youngster to
spend a summer week on a farm
but this year the government-
sponsored Urban -Rural Exchange
program saw an increasing num-
ber of rural youths making the
return visit to cities.
The second year of the prog-
ram, sponsored by Ontario min-
istry of agriculture and food,
is designed to help reduce urban -
rural misunderstanding.
Miss Dianne Fines, program
co-ordinator, said in•Clinton
last Thursday that 63 younsters
from Western Ontario cities
visited Huron -Perth farms.
She said the most noticeable
change in this year's program
was the number of farm young-
sters visiting the city from the
Huron -Perth area. She said
about 75 per cent of the farm
youths made the return trip as
compared to the national aver-
age of about 50 per cent.
The program is for youngsters
between the ages of 12 and 15.
