SEVEN LOVELY YOUNG LADIES - There were seven contestants
entered in the Bean Festival Queen contest this year at Zurich,
and they gave the judges plenty of trouble in picking a winner.

onstration cuts.
Bingo for the adults and games
and rides for children were set
up on the main street. Poco the
Clown wandered about, dressed
in a policeman's suit, an Engl-
ish bobby hat, gold shoes and a
candy -cane -striped baton. Poco
really Glenn Terry, of London,
handed out balloons and festival
stickers.
Bus tours ran frequently to
Green Acres Farm, located
about 1 1/4 miles from Zurich
on Kenneth Gascho's farm.
Visitors were shown around the
farm on tractor -drawn wagons,
and saw some of the stars of the
former Green Acres television
show, including Oliver and Lisa,
Mr. Haney and Mr. Kimble
and his pig Arnold. Players
from the Goderich Little Theatre
filled the human roles, along
with several local actors.
Sandra Campbell, 19, of
Leamington, beat out six other
contestants to win the title of
Miss Bean Festival Queen. She
was crowned by last year's
queen Judy Mudge, of Ingersoll.
Michigan Bean Queen Gail
Tromblay of Reese, Michigan
presented the new Zurich Queen
with roses. Prize money was
presented to all the contestants
by committee chairman, Mrs.
Donna Thiel.
Delaney Waddell, 20, of
Clinton, and Wilma Weiberg,
20, of R. 12.1, Zurich, were
runners-up in the queen contest.
Festival day closed with a
dance attended by about 600
at the Zurich Arena. Before the
dance, a show was presented
with the Allan Sisters and Al
Cherny of the Tommy Hunter
Show, and Gary Buck and his
band from Kitchener.
General chairman for this
year's Bean Festival was Ray
McKinnon, with Glen Thiel as
his assistant. Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald Gingerich were in charge
of the food preparations.
