Many trees have been damag-
ed recently by fireblight and
severe apple scab infestations.
Withered and fallen leaves
around the base of infected trees
should be destroyed. The fung-
icide captan can be used to
control apple scab. However,
dry sunny weather will usually
check both diseases for the rem-
ainder of the season.
Now is a good time to select
flowers and foliage for attract-
ive winter bouquets. Many
types can be air-dried by cutting
and hanging them in a dry, well -
ventilated room. Others can be
dried in fine sand or silica gel.
