Stephen Township
asked to improve
waste facilities
Representatives of the Ont-
ario Ministry of Environment
attended last Tuesday's meet-
ing of Stephen council to ask
township officials to take steps
to improve methods of operat-
ion of the two waste disposal
sites in the municipality.
R.J. H owe of the air man-
agement branch and Gordon
Johnson of the waste manage-
ment branch asked that burning
which has emission of smoke be
discontinued.
They also suggested better
coverage of household waste.
At the moment the township
has been operating the waste
disposal sites on Concession 5
and 14 on a three-month perm-
it.
If more up-to-date methods
are used, municipalities are
able to obtain permanent lic-
ences to operate.
Council accepted the tender
of Exeter Ford Sales Equip-
ment to supply a new tractor
cab and mower at a price of
$4, 494.25, the lowest of three
bids received.
The fuel contract with Pet-
rofina was renewed for another
two years. The township will
receive gasoline at 42.5 cents
per gallon, diesel fuel at 46
cents and furnace fuel at 20.9
cents per gallon.
Members of the Dashwood
Parks Board attended the
council meeting asking for
financial help for their athletic
field. A decision on the mat-
ter was reserved.
At the same time, clerk
Wilmer Wein was instructed to
prepare a recreation grants
by- law.
