The enumeration involves the gathering of basic inform- ation for Municipal voters' lists, eighty percent of Ontario Municipalities will hold elect- ions on Monday, December 4. Mr. Grossman said that throughout Ontario's history, property qualifications, with, some exceptions, have establ- ished eligibility for local elect- ors. "This year, for the first time, we have expanded the right to vote in municipal and shhool board elections to the growing number of people who are neith- er property owners nor long terns tenants. "A Canadian citizen or British subject who is 18 years of age or older and a resident of the municipality between Sept- ember 5 and October 10 can vote in local elections, " the minister explained. Mr. Grossman said this year's enumeration is also important as it embraces several other fundamental changes in legisl- ation "For example, an individual will now have only one vote per municipality, regardless of how many properties he or she may own or rent. "However, if an individual is resident in one municipality and also a property owner in another municipality he or she can vote, but only once, in each municipality, so can that person's spouse.'' Mr. Grossman continued" "This means that a cottage own- er, for example, can vote in the municipality where he is usually resident as well as the municipality in which his cot- tage is located. "As cottage owners are not normally permanent residents of the municipalities where they own cottages, enumeration notices will be mailed to them at their permanent residences. They should make any necessary corrections on the notice and mail it to the address indicated.' The enumeration is being made by the Ministry of Revenu' Assessment Division on behalf of the municipalities. Enumer- ations have traditionally been made in the spring. Starting this year, they will be under- taken in the fall, closer to the December election date, to reduce errors and omissions caused by family moves in the summer, between school years. The enumeration is to collect such information as names, ages, property occupancy status, school support, school electoral status, citizenship and residency. This information is required to prepare municipal voters' lists which will be delivered to - municipal clerks by October 10. Following publication of the lists, people who have incor- rectly been omitted from the lists can contact the Municipal Clerk to have their names added. The enumerator's visit to a home or apartment will take only a few minutes of the resid- ent's time, residents are urged to check the information record- ed by enumerators to make any necessary corrections and to sign the notice as being correct. In addition, the enumerator will countersign the notice. 0 Beans have been grown com- mercially in Ontario since 1850: 9^ of all Canadian beans are produced in Southwestern Ontario, [ii ELC to the Bean a ?, wed While you're in town, drop in and take advantage of our moues;-savng bargains COME IN AND SEE OUR BEAN FESTIVAL SOUVENIRS WESTON'S BREAD HOT DOG or HAMBURG ROLLS tch McCORMICK'S 13 oz Chocolate Chips Reg. value .59(t 2 FOR 79C Panty Hose Reg. value $1.19 Buy One - Get One Free NEILSON'S FAMOUS Ice -Cream HALT GALLONS - REG.$1.39 only 99C 0.1%%%,0040,0.000% >V...... , DROP BY AND ENJOY ONE OF OUR HAND - DIPPED CONES, 0 r s s r r r % 4 % e1 ll SHIRRIFF' S 10 oz pkg Req. value .69c 2FOR$' LUMP OR BRIQUETS .h 2 54 c AGS 79C ASSORTED Chocolate ```''`ars 3 For 2R Canned Pop '2.89 case Coke, 10 oz 69 carton smomacsactoomamoo PHIL'S VARIETY MAIN STREET ----ZURICH
