Bosco, the clown!
(by BOSCO, the Clown)
ALL THE WORLD LOVES A
Bosco, who has become a frequent visitor to Zurich during
the past few years, agrees that all the world loves a clown. He
has been clowning at parades, picnics and other special events
in the London area for about ten years.
Although he seldom speaks while performing, Bosco described
the roll of a clown as he sees it. According to Bosco a clown is a
mirror-like image because the audience see in him what they
wish to see. For example, older people may associate the clown
with their youth, and the thrill and magic of a circus.
The youngster sees the clown as an unusual character, al-
though adult in size, his actions are child -like and often silly.
They find him always happy with !Zone^o&tlie,;res, trictive qualities
they experienced from other adults in their life---par8rits and
teachers.
Who loves a clown the moat, it difficult to decide accurately
because all ages seem to enjoy his presence.
Bosco enjoys personal contact by trying to shake hands with
as many as possible. Parents are.pleased to have their children
shake hands with the clown, and theirrsmile broadens when he
gives them a big hand shake, too. He tries not to embarrass
anyone and he never makes sudden moves near small children
which may frighten them.
When some of the very young show fear of this unusual looking
fellow, Bosco does not pursue the challenge to cause a smile,
instead, he moves on with hope that the next time the little one
will realize that a clown is a friendly character.
What Bosco does when he is not clowning is another story.
However, it was noticed that he did a good job of directing
traffic during last year's Bean Festival. Bosco hopes to see his
old friends and make many new ones while he frolics about at
this year's ZURICH BEAN FESTIVAL.
READY FOR THE BEAN FESTIVAL - A Zurich lady, Mrs.
Tom Meyers, has been busy for the past several weeks making
rag dolls which will be offered for sale at the sixth annual
Bean Festival in Zurich this Saturday.
Three chairmen in five years
In the past five years, only
two men have served as chairman
of the annual Bean Festival in
Zurich. One of the originators
of the event, Ray McKinnon
served as the first chairman, and
after being away from this com-
munity for several years he has
just recently returned and is
right back into the thick of
things helping in every way pos-
sible.
' After several years as chair-
man, Mr. McKinnon was suc-
ceeded by Stewart Deitz, who
had served as co-chairman. Ile
stayed in that capacity until this
year, when Douglas Armstrong
was chosen for the position. Mr.
Armstrong is clerk -treasurer of
the village of Zurich, as well
as being manager of the Zurich

In addition to welcoming
thousands of visitors from all
over the country to the Bean
Festival last year and again this
year, a special welcome is
extended to members of rhe
Stratford Chapter of the National
Campers and Hikers Association
Last year about 15 members of
the chapter made use of facilit-
ies at the Zurich Community
Parl<, and this year close to 100
units are expected for a two-day
campout.
A noticeable feature of rhe
campers last year was the tidy
manner in which they left the
park. The group not only left
the area they used in spotless
condition, bur they cleaned up
the entire park area as well.
Hearty Welcome is extended
to this group of visitors, and the
community hopes they enjoy
their stay.

Assisting Mr. Armstrong as
co-chairman is Glen Thiel, the
president of the Zurich Chamber
of Commerce.
Probably the hardest working
couple connected with the Bean
Festival are Mr. and Mrs. Ger-
ald Gingerich, who have been
responsible for the cooking of
the beans over the past years.
Their place of business, Ginger-
ich's Ltd., is virtually turned
into a large kitchen for several
days before and after the festival,
as dozens of volunteers are
around the place assisting in the
preparation of the food.
Mr. Gingerich also rigged up
all the large ovens for cooking
the beans, and this year he
designed the large refrigeration
unit which has been put into
service for the first time,
