Mr. Dennis Bedard and son,
Gerald, left Zurich for Chath-
am on Sunday, where the latter
is planning to attend school of
the coming season.
Mr. Theodore Wagner and Mr,
Herb Kalbfleisch left on Monday
for Waterloo, where they will
both advance their studies in
the College there.
Mr.William Sproat, of Sea -
forth, has purchased from Mr.
J. Hey, Jr., in Zurich, a new
Ruggles motor truck, which he
will use in his brick and tile
business in that town.
The fine big barn of William
J. Taylor, of Stanley Township,
was destroyed by fire on Satur-
Services in the United Church
will be withdrawn next Sunday
but will be resumed on Sunday,
September 2.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob McCiymont
Michael and Shannon, of
Guelph, called on relatives here
and at Clinton on the weekend.
Floyd McAsh of Ilarniltun,
is visiting at the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. John
McAsh .
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Morris-
on and Shawn of TJdertou spent
the weekend in the village.
The directors of the Bayfield
Agricultural Society held their
final meeting last week prior
to the Fair, which will be held
on Saturday; Septernber 1.

Hugh McEwen, of Hay Town-
ship, left Hensall on Monday
for a trip to the western prov-
inces, where he has a brother
and other friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Milne Rannie
are leaving Hensall next week
for London where Mr. Rannie
has accepted a position as a
salesman with a stationery firm.
Owen Geiger of Hensall still
has a large group of men, wo-
men and children assisting him
is securing his fine yield of flax.

The council of the village of
Hensall are having a well drilled
at the Memorial Park. They are
hopeful of striking an ample
supply of water to meet rhe de-
mands of the consumers.
Mr. and Mrs, Henry Arnold
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary on Saturday, and
received congratulatory mess-
ages from many of their friends.
Operations are under way at
the present rime to pave rhe
County Road from Bayfield to
Varna, and when completed
this will make a fine highway.
Mr, Herb Mousseau is at pres-
ent installing a hydraulic hoist
in his garage at Zurich. The
new device will lift cars or
small trucks right up off the
floor as high as the ceiling will
allow.
The town of Exeter has decid-
ed to install a public drinking
fountain on the main street at
the library corner.
Ross Johnston, Archie McKin-
non and Paul Hess are at pres-
ent vacationing at the Kawartha
Lakes, in Haliburton County.

returned to her home in Zurich
after a lovely trip to British
Columbia and Alberta. While

The potatoe crop in the dist-

Miss Laura Gascho, of Zurich
dug up three potatoes weighing
a total of 31 lbs.
Dudley E. Holmes, of God-
erich, has been appointed as
magistrate for Iluron County,
and his place as Crown Attorney
is being taken over by H. Glenn
Hays, also of Goderich. The
announcement was made by
Thomas Pryde, MLA,
Mrs. Dominic Jeffrey, of St.
Joseph, met with a painful ac-
cident when she slipped over a
stone causing her a fracture of
her arm.
. A mother bear and her four
cubs, which have been the obj-
ect of an intensive search for
the past weeks, were spotted on
Tuesday by Keith McLean,
about a mile east of Hensall.
Before the posse, being led by
two members of the Provincial
Police force, could reach rhe
group of bears, they had scamp-
ered into the hush on the farm
of William Pepper.
A now hay baler caught fire
on Tuesday on the Jarrort farm
near rhe CNR station at Kippen.
About $300 damage was caused
to the new machine.
