Obituary
CHRISTIAN GASCHO
The oldest resident of the
village of Zurich, Christian
Gascho passed away at the
Bluewater Rest Home on Sunday,
August 19, in his 100th year.
He was born in Hay Township
on November 19, 1873, a son
of the late Mr. and Mrs.
John Gascho. His wife pre -dec-
eased him some years ago.
Before retiring to Zurich
some years ago, Mr. and Mrs.
Gascho farmed on the Bronson
Line in Hay Township. Mr.
Gascho had been quite active
up until about one year ago.
He had been in residence at
the Rest Home for the past
number of months.
Surviving are two sons, Amos,
R. R.2, Zurich; Clarence, Zur-
ich; and two daughters, Mrs.
Seth (Rachel) Amnians, and
Miss Laura Gascho, both of
Zurich. There are also two
sisters, Mrs. Emma Kipfer,
Bluewater Rest Home, Mrs.
Ida Jantzi, of Baden, and one
brother, David, of Boise, Idaho,
as well as three grandchildren
and three great grandchildren.
The body rested at the West-
lake Funeral Horne, Zurich
until Wednesday, when the fun-
eral service was held at the
Zurich Mennonite Church at
2.30 p.m. Interment was made
in the Zurich Mennonite Cem-
etery. Rev. C. Kuepfer officiat-
ed.
Pallbearers were Edwin Gaschc
Amos Gingerich, Roy Gingerich,
Elgin Kipfer, Orlen Schwartzen-
truber and Carl Oesch.

In the absence of Rev. A.C.
Blackwell, who is on vacation,
Rev. L.11. Kalbfleisch conduct-
ed the regular Sunday service
in St. Peter's Lutheran Church,
Zurich. In the afternoon, he
was the guest speaker at the
annual Memorial and Decorat-
ion Service in Trinity Lutheran
Church, Tavistock. Mrs. L.H.
Kalbfleisch and Ivan Kalbfleisch
accompanied him.
Mx. and Mrs. Gordon Erb
and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Kennel
are enjoying a vacation to the
west coast.
Mrs. Henry V olland, Mrs.
Irene Finlayson of Hensall and
Mrs. Margaret Pfaff, were
Friday visitors with Mrs. Rose
Butler, celebrating her birthday.

OIUE WATER REST HOME
On Tuesday afternoon the bus
went by waym,of Goderich and
Salford Heights- to Ben Miller.
It toured the Government Park
area and stopped in order that
the residents could enjoy refresh-
ments in the picnic area. They
then drove along the river and
looked over the scenery of the
town before returning home.
On Wednesday afternoon the
bus ride covered the area of
Hensall, I<ippen, Seaforth,
Holmesville and back down
along the lake shore by way of
St. Joseph. The residents were
treated to ice-cream bars along
the way.
On Wednesday evening, the
members of the Women's Instit-
ute of Hensall sponsored the
monthly birthday party. Miss
Greta Laramie presided at the
piano for community singing
with the residents. A mother
and her daughter favoured with
a duet, Mrs. Luther sang two
solo numbers, and there was
also an accordian number. We
are also grateful to Mrs. Gert-
rude Fleischauer and Mrs. Marth<
Blackwell for their assistance
The race winners at Hully
Gully on Sunday August 19 were:
1:25 Junior, Hank Pardys, of
Walton; 2-50 Junior, John Lake,
Ingersoll; Open Junior, Kevin
O'Brien, London; 1-25 Novice,
Padl Schlemmer, 'Stratford;
2-50 Novice, Rob McFarlane,
London.
Open Novice, Pete Hrudka,
Huron Park; school boy, Barry
Bremner, Brussels.
There were 77 bikes entered,
and the fastest time of the day
was Terr)-Mattenly of London.
Time was 2 minutes one-half
second. The bikes ran on 9/10
of a mile dirt course.
This event was sponsored by
the Huron Cycle Association,
a motor -cycle Moto Cross.

program a delicious lunch was
served and gifts distributed to
the residents celebrating birth-
days during the month of August
who were Mrs. Alberta Lawson,
Mrs, Emilie Schroeder and Mr.
Henry Flaxbard.
On Thursday afternoon the
bus travelled by way of Exeter
to Stratford where the residents
visited the Shakespearean Gard-
ens, stopped along the Avon
River at the picnic tables and
watched the graceful swans and
small boats while they enjoyed
a picnic lunch. Our residents
remarked concerning the beaut-
iful flowers and scenery in that
area.
As I mentioned last week,
we will be looking forward to
seeing you around our Auxiliary
booth at the Bean Festival, and
hope if you have old friends at
the home that you will drop in
to visit for a few minutes. If
you are worrying about our cut-
up streets, most of them are
quite passable, and no doubt by
that time everything will be un-
der control.
Thursday evening was our reg-
ular bingo night,
On Sunday evening the Chap-
el Service was conducted by six
staff members of the "Missing
Piece Coffee House, Grand
Bend. Those taking part were
Miss Sally Stratford, Whitby,
Miss Joyce Pickering of Japan
where her parents are mission-
aries, both young ladies are
attending York University, Tor-
onto, Mr. Keith Shaw, of Tor-
onto attends the same Univer-
sity, Miss Marion Jenkins, Tor-
onto, Mr. Peter Englert, Kit-
chener, and Mr. Paul Sodtke,
Port Colborne, all University of'
Waterloo students joined in sing-
ing some of the old familiar
hymns with the residents,
