50 Years Ago
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Deters of
Hay Township, accompanied by
Mr. and Mrs. P. Deichert and
Mrs. J. Kalbfleisch, motored
to Kitchener and Elmira last
Wednesday, taking in the 50th
anniversary celebration at the
Lutheran Church at Elmira, of
which Rev, Strempfer is pastor.
Mr. M.G. Deitz erected a
handsome garage between the
Telephone office and the Town
Hall in Zurich, which will be
used for storing Massey -Harris
farm implements. As we under-
stand in future, Mr. Deitz
will have charge of the repairs
department of this business.
Flax threshing operations
have commenced at Kalbfleisch'
mills, and also spreading of the
tow.
We are pleased to see Mr.
Fred Hess, Hensall, is opening
up a jewellery store, he having
been in the west for five years,
and previous to that had been
conducting a similar business
in Zurich and is well and favour.

for pop at Mitchell Old Boy's
Celebration, supposed to be

Miss Katherine Sells of Lond-
on, Miss Agnes and Mr. Jim
Love, Mrs. Laramie and daught-
ers Greta and Annie, Miss Hunt-
er, Mrs. George Hess and Bobby
of Hensall, Miss Maddaugh of
Flint, Michigan, were entert-
ained at the home of Miss Anna
Hess the past week.
Alton Fairburn, aged 16, son
of Willian Fairbairn, Hensall,
suffered a fractured leg during
the tattoo last Wednesday even-
ing when in the crowd he fell
from the rear of a car. He was
removed to Seaforth where his
Injuries were attended.
While assisting at a threshing
on the Duncan Stuart farm north
of Hensall on Monday afternoon
last, Russell Hedden suffered
severe arm lacerations when the
blower came off the separator
and struck him on the arm.

Dr, Eugene Tiernan and
friend of Halifax spent the
weekend at his home in Dash-
wood.
Mrs. Clare Hoffman and son
Bobbie, of Galt spent a few days
last week at the home of Mr.
and Mrs, W.L. Seibert.
The news reached town on
Monday afternoon that the barn
and contents of Mr. George
Clarke on the Goshen Line was
destroyed by fire.

While Mr. Ross Gascho enjoy-
ed the sights at Grand Bend,
someone noticed the key was
left in his father's car which he
had used to drive to the Bend,
and the snitcher lost no time in
driving off with the car, and
up to our knowledge no clue has
been found of its' whereabouts.
Mr. and Mrs. Herb Mousseau
and daughter Joyce and Miss
Pauline Bess and Kathleen Hess
are having a pleasant holiday
somewhere in the Manitoulin
Island District.
A native of Dashwood, Mrs.
Fred Genttner passed away at
her home in her 63rd year.
The many friends of Mr.
Harold Klapp are pleased to
hear that he is progressing nicely
after having the painful accid-
ent of having several ribs fract-
ured through the attempt of
anchoring his boat at Grand
Bend.

Fire of undetermined origin
last Thursday completely dest-
royed a large L-shaped barn on
the farm of Mickey Fejkl, on
the Goshen Line, two miles
north of Zurich. The fire broke
out sometime between 32 o'clock
and one.

Honoring the 76th birthday
of Mr. Hugh Love of Hensall,
some fifty relatives gathered at
Riverview Park, Exeter, on
Sunday, with a turkey dinner
with all the trimmings served.
The usually powerful -hitting
Lumberkings were held to two
scratch hits by youthful Larry
Pfaff on Wednesday night, while
opponents were banging out a
total of 11 hits off the combined
offerings of Dick Bedard and
Don O'Brien.
Council received a request
at Monday night's council meet-
ing for settlement of $772 owing
to the Hay Municipal Telephone
System for the year 1954, Reg
Black, treasurer of the system,
made the request.
