Work on Huron history.
The students working on the
Huron County Historical File
project are getting plenty of
black hands and dirty clothes
these days.
Since June 11 team members
have visited twenty-six munic-
ipal clerks, librarians, newsp-
aper offices and presidents of
historical societies to try to find
out what records do or da not
exist in the county.
The project, under the super-
vision of James Scott and co-
ordination of Bill Jeffery, Exeter
is to update the history of Huron
County from 1900 to 1975, It is
financed by the Ministry of
Education's "Experience 73"
P. E. O. P. L. E. program with
Huron County Council meeting
additional expenses. Student
team members are Judith Mal-
one, R.12,1, Centralia; Peter
Johnson, R.R.2, Goderich;
Cathy McKinley, R. R.1, Zurich;
Pauline Baechler, R.R.2, Zurich
and Richard Snell, R, R.1, Lond-
esboro.
One of the finds so far is a
40 volume set of maps dating
from 1900 to 1920 of all the
towns and villages in Southern
Ontario. The maps have a scale
of 1 inch equals 50 feet and are
located in the home of Bruce
Douglas, Stratford.
Team members are anxious
to meet anyone who has records
dating from 1900 or who would
be willing to talk with them.
Please contact Bill Jeffery at
373 Edward Street, Exeter, or
phone 235-0824.

Bayfield council

(by Milvena Erickson)
At the regular Bayfield coun-
cil meeting Monday evening,
Tom Webster of Grand Bend,
representing Acme Neon Signs,
approached Council with his
views from some business men
regarding placing a 16 feet by
8 feet lighted sign in Clan
Gregor Square. Council will
talk to the merchants regarding
the idea.
A letter was received from

reason to ask questions.
Mrs. Donald Kunder of Sea -
forth supported Mrs. Wallace in
lier bid to have the board return
ro two monthly meetings. She
said, "Our administrative staff
are doing three agendas with
the committee system rather
than two with twice monthly
board meetings, I believe we
are doing twice as much work.
With two meetings a month we
seemed to know more of what
was going on. Now to know what
is going on we should attend all
three meetings. I find the regul-
ar meetings dull and boring. We
have discussed all the work in
committee meetings and then we
bring it all up again at the reg-
ular,
Mr. 111.11 asked the new mem-
bers of the board to express
their opinions. Kenneth Cooke,
of Clinton said he thought the
committee system could not be
improved on, and Mr. Alexand-
er said the whole board too
cumbersome, all would be want-
ing to speak. John Westbrook,
Clinton and herb Turkheim,
Zurich said they believed the
committee system to be smooth
running, as did 1 -tarry Hayter,
Dashwood, Alex Corrig-
an, of R, R,1, I3luevale, Clar-
ence McDonald, of Exeter, and
Charles Ray of Zurich, Wilfred
Shorrreed of Walton, Mrs. M.
Zinn, of Lucknow, John Broad -
foot of Brucefield, D. McDonald
of Brussels.
When the vote was held to
continue the committee proced-
ure with the one general meet-
ing, only Mrs. Wallace and
Mrs. Kunder voted against it.
