JOYCE PEPPER, CORRESPONDENT Carmel WMS celebrate On Monday evening, the W, M, S, of Carmel Presbyterian church in Hensall celebrated their 83rd anniversary. Presid- ent Mrs. Rachel Schwalm open- ed with a reading and welcomed the guests from Exeter and Cromarty Presbyterian, Zurich United and Lutheran, the Arn- old Circle, and Associate mem- bers and friends. Mrs. John Soldan and Mrs. Agnes Madge were in charge of the program and worship, using scriptures from Colloss- ians and John, and meditations on these. The topic was "Joy spring srin seems to be everywhere when comes." Mrs. MacDougall and Mrs. Edith Bell favoured with a lovely duet, "In times like these, ", and were accompanied by Miss Linda Bell at the piano. Mrs, Harry Snell and Mrs. Ruby Hoggarth acted as ushers. A entitled "St. Peter at the Gate" was acted out by Mrs. Edith Bell as Doll Mrs. John y' as Polly, Mrs, Agnes Made as Mollyand Mrs. Ilarv- g ey Hyde as St. Peter, this was very much enjoyed by all, Mrs, Mollie Waddel of Sea- forth was the guest speaker and told of her trip to the Holy anniversary Land. She had a few souvenirs and read an item of the ten commandments for tourists. She said that at the customs they were searched for weapons. Many old and knew Testament sights were pointed out to them on their tour. They saw where Samson had pulled down the pil- lars of the temple. They were taken to Jacob's well, and also saw Soloman's temple, the I Damascus gates, St. Stephen's gate, and the Golden gate that Jesus entered into Jerusalem, They also viewed the Tomb of Lazaras and the Wailing Wall. A highlight of their tour was a baptism in the River Jordon. The most sacred part was at the Church of the Sepulchre and the Gardens of Gethsemene. Com-- j munion was held and she brought the little cup home with her, They saw the Dead Sea Scrolls, also visited Athens, Greece and saw Mars Hill. The speaker was introduced by Mrs. Rochus Faber and thanked byMrs. Percy Campbell. Mrs. Florence Meston had the Honour of cutting the birthday cake and spoke a few words on Church missions. The cake was made and designed by Mrs. Harvey Hyde and Mrs. Mac- Dougall. A delicious lunch was served under the convenorship df Mrs. Clarence Volland, Mrs. Earl Campbell and Mrs. Andy Orr. 0 Married 50 years Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Ward of Hensall celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last Wed - nesday quietly at their home in Hensall. A family party in their honour was held last Saturday evening in Mono Centre Hall near Orangeville. About 400 people wished the happy couple hearty congratulations. Those attending from Hensall were Brenda and Mari Russell, Grace Harpole, Howard and Vera Lemmon, Ted and Vi Robinson, David and Vi Leader, Cecil and Jen Kipfer and Ivan and Dor. othy Kipfer. The couple receiv- ed many gifts and well over one hundred lovely cards from neigh. bours, friends and relatives. Special congratulatory messages were received from R. E, Mc - Kinley, M. P, for Huron; El- wood Madill, M.P. for Peel, Dufferin and Simcoe; Robert Standfield, leader of the oppos- ition; William Davis, Premier of Ontario; Jack Riddell, M. P. P. for Huron; and a telegram from Governor-General and Mrs. Roland Michener. Mrs. Harry Horton received word Saturday that her brother, John W. Page, in England, had passed away. He was a veteran of the First World War and a P. O. Funeral services were held in England. Mr. and Mrs, Colin Katon, Surrey, England, niece and nephew of Mt. and Mrs. Harry Horton visited with them a couple,days last week. While here they also visited with other friends, Mr. David Leader is a patient in Dufferin area hospital in Orangeville, The congregation of Hensall United Church took part in the Holy Communion service held Sunday morning. The choirskit sang an anthem with Gail Tray- ers takingthe solo. Rev. Don Beck preached on the sermonSoldan topic "Promises before reality." . Wendy Dixon, Beth Munn, Joanne Rowcliffe, Jackie Sim- mons and Mrs. Mary Whitehouse were candidates for confirmat- ion and Mrs. Lyn McNaughton and Mrs. Margaret Kinghorn were welcomed into the memb- ership from other churches. At the Chiselhurst United Church service, Marilyn Brint- nell, Dianne Sararas, Donald Sararas, and Donald Stoneman were candidates for confirmatior Mrs, Laird Mickle and Bill attended Convocation Exercises Friday at the University of Western Ontario when the form- ers son Dr. Robert Mickle rec- eived his diploma for his PhD in Physics. Later the rest of the family were present for a smorg- asbord dinner at the home of Dr, and Mrs. Mickle. Those present for the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. William Mickle, Judith and John; Mr. and Mrs. Ross McMillan, David, Tommy, and Ann, Waterloo; Charles Mickle,Hamilton, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Collins, Kitchener, and Mrs. Florence Joynt, of Hensall.
