Riley reunion
at Staffa farm
The 26th Riley reunion was
held Sunday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Riley, R, R, 2,
Staffa, with 100 in attendance.
The sports were conducted
under the direction.of Leslie and
Susan Riley and Gwen and Ernie
Harburn. Results are as follows --

It was decided to hold the
reunion for 1974 again at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Riley on the second Sunday of
June. Officers for that year are;
president, Ken Clark; vice-pres-
ident, Ivan Boa; secretary,
Susan Riley; treasurer, Elizabeth
Harburn; sports committee, John
and Betty Ann Prouty, Alonzo
and Betty Harburn.

Authority programs in the
Ausable-Bayfield watershed
region include conservation
areas at Port Franks, Lucan,
Rock Glen, Camp Sylvan, Thed-
ford, Parkhill, Morrison Dam
and Port Blake.
Also taking part in the offic-
ial program were Robert E.
McKinley, Huron M.P., Jack
Riddell, Huron NI, P. P, and Leo
LaTurriell, director of the
Conservation Branch of the Ont-
ario government.

50 Years Ago
Mrs. John Smith met with an
unfortunate accident at her horn(
in Zurich, when in some manner
or other she fell down the cellar
steps and broke her shoulder
bone. She is able to be up
and around again.
Quite a number from this
area of Huron County took in
the moonlight excursion on
the Greyhound steamer at
Goderich on Monday night,
and everyone reports having a
delightful time since the weath-
er was so ideal for the occas-
ion.
Rev. Arthur Sinclair, who has
been stationed in Centralia for
the past four years, has been
appointed by the conference to
replace Rev. G. W, Rivers,
of Hensall. Mr. Rivers has been
transferred to Parkhill.
Alex Sparks has made a wond-
erful improvement to the home
he purchased in Hensall from
Mrs. A. Dougall, by putting on
a coat of paint and building
a new verandah on the front of
the building.
Mrs. John Hey, of Zurich,
county president of the Women's
Institutes, attended the joint
meeting of the Farquhar and
Hurondale groups, held at Cred-
it on.
Mr. and Mrs. William David-
son, of Ontario, California,
were recent visitors in Stanley
Township, with Mr. and Mrs.
W.J. Dowson. Mr. Davidson
left for Califormia about 43
years ago, and has done well
there.
35 Years Ago
A fairly large crowd was on
hand at the Zurich ball diamond
on Thursday evening, when the
Zurich squad defeated rhe strong
Hensall entry by an 8-5 score.
For Hensall the battery was Kip-
fer and Kerslake, while for Zur-
ich it was Heideman and Yung-
blut, Zurich out -hit the l Iensall
crew 12-9.

the first time in histroy, as the
main lines of the water system
have been completed and put
into operation,
Mr. Albert J, Kalbfleisch, a-
long with a delegation from
Grand Bend, was in Toronto last
week where they interviewed
government officials on the
establishment of public restroom:
at the summer resort.
The strawberries are coming
in quite slowly, and all indic-
ations are for a very poor crop
this year, due to the late spring.
On Tuesday last the Right
Reverend Bishop Kidd, of London
administered the Sacrament of
Confirmation to 16 boys and
eight girls at St. Peter's Church,
St. Joseph.
Mr. and Mrs. Alf Smith have
moved into the village of Hen-
sall after having lived in Stan-
ley Township for a number of
years.
Unit 4 of UCW
study India
Unit IV, Hensall U. C. W„
met on Thursday afternoon with
Mrs. R. Errat in charge. Mrs.
C. Britton took asthe theme
for the devotional "Hands- God's
hands and ours" and led in pray-
er.
Hymns were sung with Mrs.
T. Sherritt accompanying. Mrs.
C. Britton and Mrs. E. Luther
contributed a duet.
Mrs. Luther invited the ladies
to a picnic at Exeter Park on
June 15.
Mrs. R, M, Peck took the
study on India by reading a lett-
er from Mrs. Malcolm Davidson
from Brucefield who is presently
living in India, and who spent
a month's holiday touring India.
Mrs. Stanley Mitchell and Mrs.
Peck took up the offering and it
was dedicated by Mrs. Errat.
The treasurer's report was
given in detail by Mrs. Sherritt.
The ladies reported that a total
of 88 visits had been made.
Mrs. Errat reported on the bale.
Lunch was served by Mrs,
Leona Park and her committee.

The Hensall LOOF held their
annual decoration day services
on Sunday at the Hensall and
Chiselhurst cemeteries.
25 Years Ago
Miss Myrtle Hay has returned
to the home of her parents in
Zurich after having her tonsils
removed at the Clinton Public
Hospital..
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cantin,
who were married in Detroit a
few days ago, are at present
spending their honeymoon with
their parents at St. Joseph.
Mr. George Tieman has ret-
urned to his home in Dashwood
after being a patient in the
hospital for a few days.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McClin-
chey have moved their household
effects to London, where the
former has secured a position.
Miss Betty Mousseau, who is
a nurse -in -training at Stratford
Hospital, is at present spending
some vacation time with her
parents in Zurich.
Thomas Pryde won the elect-
ion in Huron County on Monday,
coming through with a narrow
109 -vote margin over his oppon-
ent, a Clinton lawyer.
10 Years Ago
At the regular meeting of
the Council of the village of
Zurich last Wednesday night,
a grant of $500 was made to
the Community Park, for the
purchase of fill and other im-
provements on the property
located east of the Arena,
Miss Helen Grainger received
word last week that she had pass-
ed her Hairdressing Examination,
and has accepted a position at
the Heather Beauty Shoppe, in
Goderich.
Rev. Ross MacDonald, Hen-
sall is attending Assembly at
Knox College, Toronto. Mrs.
MacDonald and family are vac-
ationing with her parents in
Brockville.
The Woodrow Macke birthday
meeting of the Women's Society
of the Evangelical Church was
held Thursday evening. The
ladies of Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Hensall, were guests.
