Third year for rural exchange Urban -Rural Exchange is on again! Now in its third summer, this program offers an opportun- ity for twelve to fifteen year olds from farms and from cities to live in and learn about the other environment. In a typical exchange, an urban child will spend one week on a farm, followed by a week- long visit with the city family for the rural boy or girl. With the goal of increasing understanding between urban and rural families, each visitor will participate as a member of his or her host family, taking as much part as possible in that family's norman activities of the week. Hopefully the urban child's first-hand experience as "a farmer's son or daughter" and the farm youth's week as a "city dweller" will help make them and their families more tolerant and knowledgeable of the other life-style. In this way, the program is both an opportun- ity to learn and to teach --a chance to find out the other's point of view as well as a chance to show hint how you see things. Transportation for the four sets of exchanges in July and August is arranged by the prog- ram co-ordinators, and both the exchanges and the host families are insured against accident and liability. Application forms for both urban and rural participants will be available in local schools and from the program co-ordin- ator in the county Ontario Min- istry of Agriculture and Food e 0 Am 3/lun& q kLI s..2 30 THE SQUARE PHONE 524-7811 A1RCONDFTI0NED A CHARTOFF-WINKLER/CARUNO PRODUCTION MRFILES EIFICINSCIN A MICHAEL WINNER Film "THE MECNFINiC- co.slarMing JAN -MICHAEL VINCENT • KEENAN WYNN • JILL IRELAND Produced by Mums Composed and NCondectad by JERRY PELDRK: Directed by MICHAEL WINNER .is: EE MEGIA9RG PARK CLOSED FOR THE MONTH OF JUNE WE INSTALL Carpet Expert installation of all types of wall-to-wall carpet. An Ontario farm vac- ation can provide just as much relaxation and fun a lot closer to home and at a very reason- able cost. This summer, some 45 Ont- ario farm families across the province are acting as vacation hosts. A week's vacation on an Ontario farm, meals included, can cost as little as $GO for an adult. Children, with or without accompanying adults, are also welcome. While rates for unac- companied children are avail- able from individual hosts on request, those for children with their parents range from $35 to $40 per child, per weel<. With the growing interest in bad production, a farm vacat- ion provides holidaying famil- ies with a unique opportunity to find answers to their questions from people who make their livelihood from agriculture.
