New telephones installed
and connected with the Hay
Municipal Telephone System
since the first of the year are
for Wilfred Laporte, Charles
Fritz, Joseph Schwartzentruber,
Ferd Haberer, Ben Pfile, Wil-
liam Walper and John Kipper.
Dr. Earl Granzebach, recent
graduate of the University of
Toronto, has decided to open
a dental office in the village
of Zurich, and as well he plans
on having an office in Dash-
wood for a couple of days each
week. His father was the form-
er Evangelical minister in Dash-
wood.
Mr, A.F. Hess is having a
radio installed in his house at
Zurich, and thereby willbe able
to keep in touch with rhe outside
world.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pollick,
of Hensall, who have been spent
ing the past few months in
Florida, have returned to their
home the past week, feeling
much improved after their won-
derful trip.
A respected citizen of Hensall
J. McDonnell, continues to
be very ill at the hospital in
London.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Verbeen,
who have been residents of
Ailsa Craig for some time,
have moved their effects into
one of the Joynt apartments in
Hensall.
Roy Weber has made a num-
ber of improvements to his rad-
io and shoe repair shop in Hen-
sall, He has also enlarged the
space where he displays his
radios.
The death is reported of Mrs.
Oscar Ducharme Sr., who
passed away on Sunday morning
at her home on the Bluewater
Highway, in her 80th year.

The council of the township
of Hay, at their regular meet-
ing on Monday, gave approval
to the building of a new high
school in Exeter, to serve all
the areas in South Huron.
Ward Fritz, Lloyd and Lorne
Klopp, Stanley and Gordon
Smith, spent a few days last
week in the Parry Sound dist-
rict, and stayed at the summer
cottage of Mr. Fritz on a small
island which he owns there.
Cold and raw winds are still
in evidence in this area, and
on Wednesday morning a heavy
white frost was visible on all
roofs and grass. A large number
of cattle have died in rhe ext-
reme cold since being out on
pasture.

Frank Ilarburn has been ap-
pointed as policeman and gen-
eral utility ratan for the village
of Hensall, at a salary of $125

ROY S. McBRIDE
A highly -respected resident
of Stanley Township for many
years, Roy Samuel McBride
passed away in South (luton
llospital, Exeter, on Sunday,
May 20, in his 73rd year. A
devoted member of rhe Goshen
United Church, Mr, McBride
was recently honoured by the
choir of the congregation for
his 55 years of service. He had
also served as an .elder of the
church for 50 years.
Mr. McBride was horn in
1 -lay Township on July 10, 1900,
a son of the late Mr, and Mrs,
John McBride. He married the
former Margaret McNain on
July 19, 1924.
Surviving besides his wife are
three sons; Hugh, of Edmonton,
Alberta, Wesley, R. R,1, Varna;
Tohn, R. R.1, Zurich; and one
daughter, Mrs. Earl (Phylis)
Deicherr, R, R.2, Zurich. Anti,
er sou, Keith, pre -deceased
him in 1971. Also surviving are
three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Love,
Hensall, Mrs. Edith Bell, Hen-
sall, and Mrs. Gordon (Grace)
Bloch, of Zurich. There are 15
grandchildren.
The body rested at the West-
lake funeral home, Zurich
where the service took place on
Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m.
Interment was in the Bayfield
Cemetery, with Rev. M. Morr-
ison officiating.
Pallbearers were Ilugh Mc-
Bride, Wesley McBride, John
McBride, Larry McBride, Bruce
McBride, and Earl Deichert.

Despite a chilly wind on
Monday afternoon, hundreds of
citizens of Dashwood and surr-
ounding community gathered
for the official opening of their
new Memorial Community
Centre.
Because of the cold wet
weather, there is concern over
the growth of corn already plan-
ted and there is also concern
over the corn to be planted as
to length of growing season.
Property owners in Grand
Bend will decide on June 1,
whether to buy property on the
outskirts of the village to use
as a municipal building.
At a joint meeting of the
ladies of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church, on Wednesday evening,
the ladies unanimously decided
to organize one Lutheran Church
Women, for all the ladies of the
congregation, respectfully ask-
ing the two present organization
to disband in favor of the new
one.
An outstanding blind Can-
adian, Edward G. Brown, will
address a joint meeting of the
Zurich Lions Club and the Ilur-
on County Advisory Board to
the Canadian National Institute
for the Blind in Zurich on Mon-
day evening, May 27,

A group of young men with
Bud Sturgeon as spokesman
approached Layfield Council
at their regular meeting Monday
evening, with the request that
they be allowed to use the
Arena one night a week for
lacrosse. Council could see no
reason why this couldn't be
arranged; but will meet with the
Arena Beard for their approval
and the fee to be charged.
Bill Carson also approached
council regarding the re -zoning
of his private Marina; also
Dr. G,L,M, Smith attended and
outlined some tentative plans
for preventing more erosion of
his properly and building, a
beach in his area along Lake
Huron.
A letter from the Association
of Ontario Itousing, asking for
suggestions to place on their
agenda for a conference to
study Housing aspects in the
Province, was received; a req-
uest from the Ministry of Tour-
ism for information on the
Village was received; a request

from the Huron County Histor-
ical Society for a grant was
acknowledged with a reply that
due to having an active Local
society, any grant forthcoming
would be given to the Bayfield
Organizations; a Proclamation
to proclaim Canada Week from
June 25 to July 1 was approved
by Council; a motion was passed
to ask for the use of the Services
of the County of Huron Weed
Inspector.
The clerk will be out of his
office on Friday, May 25, att-
ending a zone 2 treasurer's
meeting in Guelph.
Bayfield Council is presently
preparing a list of names of
reeves, councillors and corpor-
ation employees from 1876 to
present day. Some minute books
are missing --those from 1891
to 1913 and from1927 to 1943.
If anyone has these in their poss-
ession, would they kindly loan
them to council, so this inform-
ation can be completed?
A tentative date of Sunday
afternoon, June 17, has been set
up for taking of pictures of
reeves, councillors and corpor-
ation employees from re -incorp-
oration (1965) to present day.
All persons involved are to be
notified when arrangements are
completed.
Council instructed the clerk
to write asking for an extension
of the L, LP. as some projects
in progress have not been compl•
eted.
