Mrs. John Robinson opened
the United Church Women's
meeting at Goshen United
Church with a poem "Mother
India" and followed with a true
story of a peasant who died of
hunger. Scripture was read by
Mrs. Brian Lempiere from John
20.
Mrs. Bob Peck brought to the
attention of the group an article
in the Observer about 2000
visitors from India who want to
stay in Canada but are being
deported,
Mrs, John Robinson then
showed two flints "The Plain of
the Ganges" and "India the
People" as well as some slides
of village life. She hoped to
show why these Indians would
prefer Canada to their own
country.
Mrs. Floyd Armstrong read a
letter from Dr. McClure, tell-
ing a little of life in India. The
religions of India were then
discussed by Mrs, John Robinson.
She commented on the fact that
only two percent of the Indian
population were Christians. The
beliefs of the Hindu religion
were explained.
Mrs. Howard Armstrong read
a comment by Nehru about Ch-
ristianity and discussed Indian
Yoga. She also answered the
question "what should the churcl
be doing in India': The pamph-
let "An Indian look at the
Christian Church in India" was
read by Mrs. Brian Lempiere,
Mrs. John Robinson read a
poem "The Cross is Lifted".
A hymn was sung and Mrs,
Floyd Armstrong closed with a
prayer.
Business was then conducted
by Mrs. John Robinson. Minutes
were read and approved. Eigh-
teen members answered the
roll call by a word or sentence
connected with India. The off-
ering was Taken and cards were
read from Steve Keys and Shar-
on Keys.
Mrs. Elgin McKinley thanked
the ladies for serving at the
supper. The bale will be packed
ou Wednesday, May 28, at the
church, and sent to London Res-
cue Mission. The meeting was
closed with rhe Lord's Prayer.
