hand was injured last week is
visiting his sisters, Mrs. F. Hab
erer and Mrs. William Decker.
His injury occurred when his
mitten was caught in the hook
of the spring on the friction
pulley.
Thomas F. Turnbull of the
Sauble Line, was cutting wood
on Tuesday, when in some way
a long pole hit his leg at the
knee and wrenched it. Dr.
O'Dwyer was called. Mr.
Turnbull will be laid up for
some time.
County roads within the vill-
age of Zurich will be oiled, by
the county road department,
with the village paying 40 per-
cent of the cost.

up residence on the 15th con-
cession where Edsel will be
employed by his father, who
lives on the same concession.
Mrs. Leon Jeffrey, Sr., who
spent the winter with Mr. and
Mrs. Wilbur Dewey, Grand
Bend, has returned to her home
in St. Joseph.
Ray Schilbe, elder son of
Mr. and Mrs. Milfred Schilbe
arrived home on Saturday,aft-
er a trip with other members
of the reserve Navy, to Berm-
uda.
Miss Rita Foster, student at
Stratford Norman School, is a
junior teacher with Mrs. Men -
no Oesch, Bronson Line south.
She is staying with her uncle
and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Foster.

A dangerous brush fire which
spread from a bonfire to the
north and east of the village
was quelled by members of the
Zurich Fire Department, Mon-
day afternoon, just as the
flames threatened a stand of
evergreens and a large bee -
house owned by Ed Haberer.
Lack of rain, had left the
ground cover so dry that the
fire had spread quickly. About
ten acres was bruned over.
Three new filed bean var-
ieties, Saginau, Michelite 62,
and Steuben have been licenc-
ed for sale in Canada.

The annual campaign of the
Canadian Cancer Society's
Huron Unit will open soon loc-
ally. The units objective this
year is $16, 000„ and will cont-
ribute towards a provincial
objective of 1, 800, 000 and a
total national aim of 3, 682,
000. Members of the Hensel).
Kinsmen Club are planning a
door to door canvass in Hensall
next Monday night April 22.
In Zurich the campaign will
be conducted by the members
of the Lions Club.
