UNIT IV OF 1J,C.W,
Unit IV of Newell United
Church Women met on Thurs-
day afternoon at the church with
21 members present. Mrs. James
McAllister, leader, opened the
meeting with a verse from
II Corinthians, Chapter 13,
"Examine yourselves to see if
you are holding the faith."
"Self examination'is necessary,
she said, and she closed with
prayer. Mrs. George Armstrong
gave the devotional on Spring
and Easter when the greatest
event of the Christian Church
takes place, Mrs. Russell Erratt
read the Scripture from Luke
and Matthew on the Crucifixion
and the Resurrection. Mrs. Har-
ry Caldwell gave the study on
education in India, Mrs. Mc-
Allister read a letter from Jesu
Ashram in India, written by
Brother Bob. Mrs. Rowe reported
for the Queensway Nursing
Home. The offering was taken
by Mrs. Harburn and Mrs. Ferg-
uson. Mrs, E. Chipchase and
her committee served lunch.
News of Verne
The April meeting of the
United Church Women was
held in the church last Thursday
evening, Devotions were taken
by Group one led by Mrs, Bob
Stirling who opened the meeting
with a hymn and the scripture
was read by Mrs. Louis Taylor.
The offering was taken up by
Mrs. William McAsh and ded-
icated by Mrs. Stirling. Mrs.
Ida McClinchey then "took
us on a trip, " to Nashville,
Tenn., where she attended
the Upper Room Chapel and
Publishing House. She showed
slides and artists paintings of
the Last Supper and Chapel
and made some very interesting
remarks.
Mrs. Ralph Stephenson presid-
ed over the business meeting.
Mrs. Gordon Johnston read the
minutes of the last meeting and
twenty-one members answered
the roll call. An invitation was
received from the U. C.W.
of Wesley Willis and Ontario
Street churches to the Thank -

The annual meeting of Kipp -
en East Women's Institute will
be held at the home of Mrs. E.
Whitehouse, April 18 at 8:30
p.m. Reports of standing com-
mittees will be given. There
will be a sale of plants and a
talk by a hydro inspector. Roll
call , a farm safety hint and

Mr. Maurice Omey has ret-
urned from a six week vacation
in Belgium.
Mr. Robert Kinsman has pur-
chased the farm of Richard Tay-
lor.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack McGee,
Dungannon, visited with Mr.
and Mrs. W.L. Mellis.
Mrs. Sadie Wren is spending
some time with her daughter an(
son-in-law, Mi. and Mrs. Tom
Smith, in Guelph.
Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Kyle
were guests at a reception held
for Rev. Roy Connor in Water-
loo United Church. The occas-
ion being his ordination into
the ministry of the church.
4-I1 CLUB
The seventh meeting of the
Kippen II, 4-H Club was held
on April 5, at 7 p. m. at the
home of Mrs. Ray Consitt. The
roll call was answered by all
members and the fashion show
and exhibit were discussed.
Mrs. McGregor checked the
books while members' decided
each ones responsibility for the
items for the exhibit. Next
meeting will be April 12 at
McGregors.

Upshall for a plant she received,
Mrs. Malcolm Davidson sent a
letter telling how delighted she
and her family were with their
life in India. Tits, Bob Webster
gave the treasurer's report.
A feature of the May meeting
is to be a plant sale with
Group Two in charge,
Mrs. Bob Stirling closed the
meeting with prayer and lunch
