ALL A OUT BAYFIELD INTERESTING HAPPENINGS LIONS CLUB (by Milvena Erickson) The Bayfield Lions Club last Tuesday evening, December 12, held their dinner meeting at the Community Centre, and it was well attended. They discussed packing and distributing of Christmas baskets to the shut-ins, made more plans for the big Winter Carnival weekend at New Years and were informed that ticket sales on a high powered snowmobile were picking up. The group learned with regret that three members, namely Grant Stirling, Harvey Coleman and Jack Scotchmer were all hospitalized and wished them "speedy recovery." CHRISTMAS CONCERT The annual Sunday School Christmas Concert of St. And- rew's United Church was held Friday evening, December 15, in the church basement with Rev. J. Reddock as chairman. The Sunday School children entertained with songs, recitat- ions, piano solos, skits and skills; assisted by the United Church Women who did a skit with Mrs. Joanne Bulien as the Postmistress. The Couples Club presented two dialogues; one being a "Radio Broadcaster" and the other "Santa On Trial." The Senior boys did a puppet show with poor Santa being hi- jacked and held for ransom. Througi,out the evening Christmas Carols were sung by the audience, Later, Santa arrived and dis- tributed candy bags to the Sunday School members and the children. CAROL SERVICE The annual Candlelight Carol Service held in St. And- rew's United Church, Sunday, December 17, was well attend- ed and very much enjoyed. Mrs. Verna Lobb, Clinton, was guest pianist for the service and assisted Mrs. Molly Cox, organist and Choir Director. Solos by John Siertsema, :What is This" and by Ted Dunn, IN ONTARIO'S "Kepp Christ in Christmas; a trio, comprised by Peggy and Lynda Campbell and Dawn Emma McLeod, " Carol of the Drum, " a quartet numbers by Mrs. Molly Cox, Doreen Mc- Kenzie, John Siertsema and Ted Dunn, " "When the Lord of Love was Born, " numerous choir members and Hymn selections with the congregation participat- ing gave much pleasure and thought to those attending. An hour of fellowship was enjoyed in the church basement following the service. It has been the tradition of Trinity Anglican Church, not only to celebrate Christmas Day, but to prepare for the celebrations by the reading of the Christmas story, interspers- ing the readings with carols talc - en from the wealth of music dedicated God. This service called "The Festival of the Nine Lessons" was held Sunday morning, December 17. The Lessons, taken from scripture passages in the Bible, were read by Andrew Erickson, Fred Hulls, Harry Baker, Mrs. Evelene Earl, Mrs. Vina Parker, Mrs. Lorna Merrier, Philip DuBoulay and the Rector, Rev. G. Youmatoff, each represent- ing the different church groups. The Christmas Carols were sung by the congregation and choir joining their voices in a very beautiful service. CHRISTMAS CONCERT For the first time in a numb- er of years, Trinity Anglican Church, Suhday School held a Christmas Concert, Sunday, December 17. The Junior Sunday School opened by singing "Jingle Bells.' Recitations by Dawn Merner, Cindy Cluff and Andrew Erick- son and a skit entitled "The Hole in the Stocking." perform- ed by Cindy Cluff and Andrew Erickson; a reading by Ricky Johnson and the entire Sunday School doing the "Christmas Story" with the teachers, Mrs. Lorraine Haely and Miss Karen Gemeinhardt doing the narrat- ing assisted by the audience sing Bowling scores at Zurich Lanes LADIES BOWLING LEAGUE December 11, 1972 Dominionaires - H. Rev, George Youmatoff, sang a very beautiful solo number "0 Holy Night" accompanied by the church organist, Mrs. Don Johnson. The highlight of the afternoon was the arrival of Santa Claus who distributed gifts to all the children, assisted by Andrew Erickson. A lovely lunch and treats'for the children were all donated by the Ladies Guild of Trinity Church. MIXED EUCHRE CLUB The Christmas social evening of the mixed euchre club ,was held in the Municipal Building, Wednesday evening, Decemb- er 13 with 20 members present. Prizes were won by Dorothy Merner, Vina Parker, Frank McClinchey and Brown Lindsay. The next meeting will be on Wednesday evening, January 10. Miss Rhea Sturgeon, London, was a week -end guest of her parents Mr. and Mrs. J,B, Stur- geon, and brothers Bud and Andrew, Miss Barbara Graham, Fan- shawe College, London, is spend ing her winter vacation with her parents and family, Mr. and Mrs. Pat Graham, Nancy and John. Mrs, Norman F. Cooper, Mount Clemens, Mich., is spending a few weeks at their village residence. Bud Robinson, Cobalt and Mr, Calvin Scotchmer, Iroqu- ois Falls have taken up resid- ence in the Riley home on Keith Crescent. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Leney, London, were registered guests in the Albion Hotel for the weekend. A warn welcome to new res- idents Mr, and Mrs. Harold Bonthron (formerly of Hensall) who have moved into their new home purchased from Mr. and Mrs. A,F, Scotchmer,l over- looking the Bayfield River. Holiday hours for area banks With Christmas Day falling on Mdnday this year, chartered banks throughout the area will be adopting a slight change in their hours of business. Ori Friday the banks will assume normal business hours, but then they will also be open on Saturday morning from nine o'clock until 12. They will be closed both Christmas Day and Boxing Day, The following weekend the banks will adopt regular busin- ess hours on Friday, and will be closed on Monday, New Year's Day.
