50 Years Ago
A pretty wedding took place
at the Evangelical Church pars-
onage, Crediton, on December
14, when Ferdinand Haberer, of
Zurich was united in marriage
to Miss Alice Gaiser, of Crediton
It is estimated that the hand-
shaking from one election
would be enough to pump two
million gallons of water.
Last Thursday evening the
members of the Young People's
League in Hensall presented the
gift of a pair of gold cuff links
to their president, Mr. F.J.
Wichwire, who is moving to
Exeter.
Mr. Ed Haberer, who attend-
ed the annual convention of the
Ontario Beekeepers Association
in Toronto last week, has come
home with a recipe to make a
mixture to put into auto radiat-
ors for winter use to prevent
freezing. The recipe is to mix
15 pounds of honey with the
required amount of water to
fill the radiator. This mixture
is guaranteed to do the job and
prevent freezing.
40 Years Ago
Mr. Albert Foster, of Biggar,
Saskatchewan is at present
spending a week with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. John Foster
and other relatives and friends.
We are pleased to report that
little Rossie Gascho, who had
a mild attack of scarlet fever
a few weeks ago, has recovered,
and is up and about the house
as usual.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Reichert,
Jr., of the Blind Line, Hay
Township, and baby daughter,
had a narrow escape from ser-

ious injury when their buggy
was smashed by a car at the
Egmondville bridge on Friday
December 2.
Messrs O'Brien and Son have
on Tuesday of this week made
a large shipment of dressed
turkeys to London.
Some people have said that
the cost of living is high in
Zurich, when we take the pap-
ers and read that in London
milk is selling at 5 cents a
quart and three cents a pint,
and then at Exeter you get three
loaves of bread for 10 cents.

Dr. R. Hobbs Taylor, of
Dashwood, the member of the
Ontario Legislature for Huron
County passed away very sud-
denly at his home on Wednes-
day.
Dr. W.B. Coxon, of Zurich,
has been re-elected as presid-
ent of the Western Ontario Vet-
erinary Association, when the
group held their annual conv-
ention in London.
James McAllister has been
appointed as the Hay Township
representative to the South
Huron District High School
Board.
Lloyd B. Hodgson, of Central-
ia,' has resigned from the posit-
ion of clerk treasurer of Stephen
Township. He will devote his
full time to his insurance busin-
ess. Mr. Hodgson has served the
Hay Township for the past four
years.
Eric Mcllroy, proprietor of
the Lakeview Casino, Grand
Bend, was taken to St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, suffering
from severe burns he received
when he carried a burning stove

The passing of Mrs. Gordon
Bissett, of Salford Heights,
just outside of Goderich, 68,
was the former Freda Hess, of
Zurich, the daughter of the
well known Fred Hess Sr.,
family.
The Unique Farm Forum met
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Delbert Geiger to discuss the
topic, The Rural Community.
Mr. Thomas Meyers led the
groups in discussion and they
answered the questions.
The regular meeting of the
CWL of St. Joseph Parish was
held on December 3, at the
home of Mrs. Lloyd Etue with
an attendance of 24 members.
The president Mrs. Lawrence
Regier was in the chair. ,
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Thiel
attended the wedding of the
latter's sister, Donna Jeanette
Dodgson to Mr. James A.
Vowles, all of London on Sat-
urday. The bridal couple call-
ed on the Thiel family on Sun-
day.
Mrs. Annie Finkbeiner who
has been staying at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Louise Schilbe,
is still confined to the home
with an attack of the flu.

Jerry McClinchey left on
Thursday by plane to spend
Christmas with Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Shupe and family at Cham-
paign, Illinois.
Mrs. C. Cook left by plane
on Wednesday for Los Angeles,
California, to spend the winter
months with her daughter and
son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
G.M. Chellew and family.
The road employees of Hay
Township were granted a pay
increase last Saturday afternoon,
as the 1962 council held their
final meeting of the year. Two
employees, Gordon Smith and
Norman Masse, were each grant-
ed an increase of 10 cents an
hour, while the third employee,
grader operator Douglas Armst-
rong, was given an increase of
5 cents an hour.
Mrs. Ken Parke has been
engaged to fill the teaching
position at S. S.15, Hay in place
of Mrs. German who recently
handed in her resignation.
Mrs. Fred Schroeder, of Dash-
wood was taken to St. Joseph's
Hospital, London, by Hoffman's
Ambulance, on Sunday.

Recipes
NUTS 'N BOLTS
11/2 cups bite -sized shredded
wheat cereal
1 cup bite -sized shredded rice
cereal
11/2 cup unsweetened circles
1 cup salted peanuts
1 cup pretzel sticks
i/:1 cup oil
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/9 teaspoon onion salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire
sauce
Combine cereals, peanuts
and pretzels in large pan.
Sprinkle oil over cereal mix-
ture, then add seasonings and
mix well. Bake 1 hour at 250°
F, stirring occasionally. Store
in air -tight container 6 -to 8
weeks sit room temperature. 6
cups.
CASHEWS SNACKS: Make
as NUTS 'N BOLTS but add 1
cup salted cashews to cereal
mixture. Makes about 7 cups.
