Extend hours
Stephen Township council
has decided to extend the open
hours of the municipality's
waste disposal site at part of
Lot 3, Concession 5, beginning
early in January.
Clerk Wilmar Wein said after
the regular meeting last Tuesda)
that he was authorized to adver-
tise for a person to operate the
dump grounds six days per week.
The hours would probably be
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It is expected a small bull-
dozer will be required to handle
proper land filling.
At the present time, the
dump is open only on Wednes-
days and Saturdays with an
attendant to supervise dumping
operations. The township's
other waste disposal site will
continue to be operated under
the present system. It is located
on Concession 14, near the
southerly limits of the township.

The speaker said that we
need to shape some of our old
institutions to new conditions
in the future, rather than aband-
on them. He pointed out that
common sense tells us we must
look to the proven institutions
such as the home, the church,
the school and good teachers to
instill sound values in our youn-
ger generation.
Mr. Turner asked, "Why has
it become fashionable to attack
the establishment?" He went on
"never in human history have
more people shared more wealth
or had more opportunities with •
better jobs. Without the establ-
ishment social programs become
only empty promises - the
establishment founded our count•

In concluding his remarks
Mr. Turner suggested perhaps
it is time that we need to return
to spiritual realities, since the
problem of sorting human
values in reality may ultimately
be a problem of religion. "We
are highly educated, have vast
warehouses of accumulated
knowledge on every subject
imaginable, but in many areas
these warehouses, are in short
supply of common sense, "
he added. "Our world of tomor-
row lies not in our hands -but in
the effort of people of the races,
creeds and nations motivated
by common sense actions."
A toast to the ladies present
for the event was proposed by
Douglas Armstrong, and was
replied to by Mrs•Jim Hogg.
Head table guests were introduc-
ed by president Herb Turkheim.
Entertainment for the evening
was provided by the Heywood
Brothers.
Two lucky draws were held
for turkeys, and were won by
Mrs. Charles Rau and Floyd
Armstrong. Each lady present
was given a small gift.
