Speaking of Stephen Town-
ship, and the results of Mon-
day's election I thought it
would be very interesting to
get the reaction of the wives
of the new trustees. Mrs.
George Tiernan, whose husband
led the polls said she was happy
with the results, that it would
indeed be a challenge and she
also thought it was time for a
change. Mrs. Doug Riddell,
who with her husband and two
children are comparitively
new citizens in Dashwood was
very happy with the results.
She felt her husband would do
his very best for the village.
Mrs. Harold Schroeder says she
was surprised at the results. She
hopes its for the best and she
knows Bud will do his best.

GRASS TETANY
Some cattle deaths in recent
weeks have been caused by
grass tetany, say veterinarians
of the Veterinary Services
Branch, Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food. They
recommend that all cattle be
taken off pasture into shelter
and put on a hay diet. They
also advise farmers to contact
their local veterinarian if they
feel they have a potential prob-
lem.
This fall's poor weather is one
reason for the outbreak. The
disease is caused by magnesium
imbalance. The condition can
arise when cattle are on past-
ure in late fall. Cold weather
apparently reduces the uptake
of magnesium by forages, as
well as lowering magnesium
levels in the animals by in-
creased demand, poorer absorp-
tion, or some other means.
Affected animals may appear
nervous or uncoodinated. They
will walk with a stiff -legged
gait, have muscle spasms of
the legs and tail and will fall
down in convulsions. The early
symptoms of the disease are
not unlike the symptoms of
rabies.
