Miss Fanny Kipper left Zurich
this week for Parkhill where
she has accepted a position for
the future.
Charles Fritz and William
O'Brien, who were on a duck
hunting expedition to Lake
Erie last week returned home
and were able to show the
people of Zurich and district a
fine bag of this hard -to -get
game.
William Walper, of Seaforth,
has purchased the house, lot
and bake shop in Zurich from
Irvin Eckstein who has conduct-
ed the bakery business for the
past year.
A grand opening of the new
pavement in Hensall is being
held for three nights of this
week, with a large calathump-
ian parade starting the festivit-
ies off, with a number of good
bands in attendance.
Sam Rannie, of Hensall, who
recently underwent an operat-
ion for the removal of tonsils
has been indisposed during the
past week.
G. P. Marshall, of the Mol -
son's Bank staff in Hensall, has
been notified of his transfer
to the branch in Delhi. He has
been in Hensall for the past
three weeks.
40 Years Ago
Mrs. Henry Eichler, who
spent a week or so with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merino
Bechler of town, has returned
to her home in Pigeon, Mich.
The Zurich Horseshoe Club
expressed their sympathy and
loss of a well worthy member
in the passing of Charold Ray
Surerus last Thursday. Charold
was a very outstanding young
player with a very promising
future.
A rather peculiar and unfort-
unate accident happened on
the farm of Mr. Clayton O.
Smith, of the Blue Water
Highway, south of St. Josephs
on Sunday evening. Mr. Gilbert
Jeffrey, a neighbour had driven
a cow into the Smith farm
which in some way got on top
of the shallow well which leads
to the deep rock well, and
spread the planks and fell into
the well. A team of horses and
a block and tackle was used
to pull the cow out.
Mr. John Denomy has moved
onto the farm west of Blake
recently vacated by Mr. Auben,
who has moved onto a farm in
Stanley Township,

The Hensall Boy Scouts re-
alized $63 from their apple day
held, last Saturday in the vil-
lage.
Mr. and Mrs. John Pfaff have
rented the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Hall and plan moving
into the home in the near fut-
ure.

Mr. Francis Kipper has taken
a position with the Zurich Bak-
ery, and at present is delivering
on one of the many routes oper-
ated by this firm.
Mr, Ivan Kalbfleisch of Zur-
ich, accompanied by Dr. H.H.
Cowen, of Exeter, motored to
northern Ontario for a few days,
combining business with pleas-
ure. The two men called on
Ward Fritz, and the group eng-
aged in some prosperous fishing.
Ivan was fortunate in landing
a big 10 -pound pike.
Howard Klapp met with an
unfortunate accident last Sat-
urday afternoon when in some
manner he managed to get his
thumb crushed in trying to hook
on to some machine. The inj-
ury required a number of stitche
to close.

A 1955 car stolen from south
of Drysdale Saturday last, was
recovered in Peterborough Tues-
day night last, and two men

were arrested by police. Owner
of the car is Leon L. Bedard
who lives north of Drysdale.
Mrs. R.M. Peck and Mrs.
Carl Payne attended the Huron
County Rally of Women's Inst-
itute in Londesboro, last Tues-
day.
The Pinery, with its several
hundred acres of sand dunes
and rolling bush land and four
miles of white sand beach, will
be open to the public, compl-
ete with picnic and hiking fac-
ilities next year.
Mr. Fred Henttner, of Dash-
wood is spending the winter
months at Blyth.

A native of Zurich, William
H. O'Brien, son of Mr, and
Mrs, Leroy O'Brien, played a
prominent part in preventing
Monday's attempted robbery
of a downtown Toronto branch
of the Bank of Montreal.
Mr. and Mrs. Eben Weigand
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
Mel Elliott, of Zurich, spent
Friday at the Royal Winter Fair.
On Monday evening, Novemb
er 19, the family of Christian
Gascho, in Zurich, gathered
at his home to honor him on
his 89th birthday.
A large crowd attended the
auction sale in Hensal,1 on
Saturday of the estate of the
late Dr. James Bell. The prop-
erty was purchased by Ira Geig-
er of Henrall for $7, 200.
Mr, and Mrs, Orville Mc-
Clinchey, Mrs. Emma Schilbe
and Mrs. Annie Finkbeiner
spent a pleasant weekend in
Akron, Ohio, visiting their
sister, Mr. and Mrs. George
Kerswill,
Mr. C, L. Jinks, who has been
a patient in South Huron Hosp-
ital for the past nine weeks,
returned home Saturday last.
