Walter Miller
speaks to Local
317 of NFU
On Thursday evening, Novem-
ber 16, a meeting of the Nat-
ional Farmers Union was held
in the Dashwood Community
Centre. The meeting was open-
ed by the president, Lloyd Wi1-
lert, who spoke basically on
the many achievements which
Local 317 have quite successful-
ly manned during this year and
since he has been in office, and
also within the few years since
the Union has been nationalized.
Nominations were held for
delegates to go to the Winnipeg
convention, being possibly three
delegates eligible. The Conven-
tion is being held on December
11 to the 15.
The three delegates are Joseph
Miller, Lloyd Willert, and
Richard Ayotte. An alternate
delegate chosen was Casey Inth-
out.
The president, Lloyd Willert,
introduced Walter Miller of
Tara as guest speaker. Walter
congratulated the executive,
both past and present, since the
Farmers Union was nationalized
in 1969. He commented on cap-
ability each has had being able
to stand up against the bits of
competition and false news
media. possibly by just not
understanding the organization.
"But, " he stressed, "the Agro -
business do understand the sit-
uation, they are well aware
and are not loosing any time
either."
He mentioned the NFU oppos-
ing several bills which most
possibly would have gone
through parliament and been
passed, especially one was that
the farmers received their wheat
cheques. He said the main part
structure of the Union was to
enable farmers to gain for them-
selves the one thing necessary
and that is "Collective Bargain-
ing.
Mr. Miller asked again for
members to sign the bank auth-
orization forms entitling their
membership being paid yearly,
and helping the executive from
running here and there collect-
ing the membership at the
usual rate.
He spoke on the Bell Tele-
phone Company announcing
they are to increase their rates,
which, when asking the meet-
ing's opinion, it was opposed
unanimously.

Shish Kabobers
( by Nellie Van Wonderen)
The sixth and seventh meet-
ings of the Shish-Kabobers were
held on Monday, November 6,
and Tuesday, November 14.
Both meetings were held at
7:30 p.m.
For the demonstration, cheese
dreams were made for our
night-time lunch. A glass of
soda pop was served with the
cheese dreams.
At the seventh meeting,
"How To Operate a Fondu Set"
was demonstrated. Two fondu
pots were used, We filled both
with vegetable oil in the fondu
pot so we could fry our pieces
of sirloin steak. The steak
tasted just great! For dessert,
we could dip pieces of cake
and bananas into a chocolate
sauce.
