Is he on the payroll?" Poor catch for duck hunters Heavy rains and cold winds failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the duck hunters on the open- ing day of the season at the Luther Marsh Wildlife Manage- ment area on Saturday, Septem- ber 29. Shortly after dawn all permits had been issued and hunters were busy preparing their blinds and hides before 12 o'- clock. The noon shoot was brief and few hunters were successful as ducks soon climbed out of range of the gunners. Shooting during the afternoon was also intermittent but the weather was clear and cold for the even- ing flight which was good and many hunters were successful in bagging their count. Many species of ducks were harvested such as Mallard, Blacks, Blue and Green Winged Teal and Scaup, and 13 persons were apprehended for violations under the Migratory Birds Act.
