THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5, 1972 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS General meeting of Hensall UCW The thank -offering general meeting of the Hensel' United Church Women was held Mon- day evening in the auditorium of the church. Mrs. McAllister presided and welcomed every- one. Piano and organ duets with Eric Luther on the piano and Mrs. Murray Keyes on the organ throughout the meeting were very much enjoyed as were two solos rendered by Mrs. Shirley Luther. Mrs. Cliff Britton very cap- ably gave the devotional using the theme "Thanksgiving is Thanksliving.," and gave a quotation said by Stanley Jones "It's not what happens to us that matters, it's what we do with what happens that counts." Mrs. Earl Rowe read portions of scripture pertaining to Thanksgiving from Psalm 107. Mrs. McAllister conducted the business and reminded everyone that the end of Nov - ember is the end of the year for offering for 1972 for the UCW. Members were asked to co-operate. The next general meeting will be the first Monday in Dec- ember, with Unit II in charge. Mrs. McAllister introduced the guest speaker for the even- ing, Dr. Rodger Whitman, from Seaforth, who showed slides on Africa and gave every- one a very interesting talk on Crossroads Africa and also Afr- ica to -day. A table of souvenirs that Dr. Whitman had collected while in Africa was set up for all to see. Members of Unit IV served a tasty lunch. 0' Ontario motorists will now have a wider choice in select- ing their "Own Choice" of licence plates with the relaxat- ion of the previously announced restrictions on the use of the letters "G", "I" and "Q". Last month, the Ministry of Transportation and Communic- ations announced that within certain limitations and for a fee of $25 above the normal registration fees, motorists would be able to request licence plates for passenger cars and station wagons Two members attend (by Wilma Oke ) The Huron -Perth County Roman Catholic Separate School Board meeting in Sea - forth Monday again approved giving a $75. scholarship to the Kiwanis Music Festival in Strat- ford for the festival next April 2 to 14. The board was informed there had been an increase of 200 entries in 1972 over 1971. The request was approved by Mrs. J. Grant of World Service Committee, through YMCA and YWCA, to allow the dist- ribution of UNICEF boxes in the Separate Schools in Stratford to permit the students to part- icipate in the UNICEF program, on Hallowe'en, Trustees John McCann, of R.R.3, Ailsa Craig, and Ted Geoffrey, of R. R.2, Zurich, will represent the board at the Ontario English Catholic Teach- ers' Association weekend conf- erence in Toronto, November 3-5, Assistant Superintendent Joseph Tokar will attend as well. The conference is on the theme "What takes place in a Catholic school room from nine to four." Copies of the printout (bud- get balance to date) were dist- ributed to the members of the board. These will be consider- ed and then next meeting time will be allowed for questions on the budget to be answered. The property committee was appointed to investigate what has to be done to clean up the board's new property on No 4 highway in the eastern parr of Seaforth so that it may be used as a play area by the students at St, James School, Estimates of builslozing costs, etc. are to be secured by next board meeting. The property committee is to investigate also getting a bulldozer to clean up the back area to the south of the school property in St. Marys. Trustee Joseph Looby urged that the bulldozing work must be done in October before wet weather sets in November. The Board accepted the res- ignation of Mrs. George Reurink who has been custodian at St. News of Kippen ST. ANDREW'S U.C. W. The United Church Women of St. Andrew's Church, Kippen, met at the home of Mrs. Emer- son Kyle with hostesses Mrs. D. Turner and Mrs. Grace Love in charge. The meeting was opened by words of welcome by the pres- ident, Mrs. William Ball. Mrs. Orville Workman gave the wor- ship with the theme "Wisdom." Mrs. Lloyd Cooper introduced the guest speaker, D.W. Ken- nel-, superintendent of Huron County Board of Education, who spoke on student services. In the business of the meeting it was decided to have a fowl supper November 1, and to sell advanced tickets. Courtesy remarks were given by Mrs. Lloyd Cooper and lunch was served by Unit I HOMEMAKING CLUB The "Kippen Kabobs" 4-H Club met at the home of Mrs. Robert Bell. The discussion was on packed lunches and a guessing contest on sand- wiches was conducted. Judith Mickle and Debbie Consitt dem- onstrated western sandwiches and Linda Bell served. VISITORS Mr. and Mrs. Grant Caldwell, Baltimore, Maryland, visited with Jack and Mrs. harry Cald- well. Mrs. Edna Gotch, New Orl- eans, Louisianna, and Mrs, Francis Case, Fort Anne, New York, were visitors with Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Mellis, Mr. and Mrs. David Moyer, Parry Sound with the latter's father, Robert Thompson. 0 Some parents teach their children to drive, in off-street situations, long before they ' are legally old enough.
