RATHWELL - STEPHENSON
Varna United Church was the
setting for a wedding, Septemb-
er 9, 1972 in which Debora Ann
Stephenson became the bride of
Donald Charles Rathwell.
Tinted blue gladioli, white
daisies and lighted tapers in
candelabra provided the back-
ground for the double -ring

yoke and extended down the
front of the gathered skirt and
around the built-in cathedral
train. A cap of lace and white
ribbon held the three-tier, el-
bow length, silk illusion veil.

of pink sweetheart roses, -with
white miniature carnations and
baby's breath.
The maid of honor was Barb-
ara McClure, London and brides•

ing gowns of chiffon over taffeta
with ivory bodices trimmed with

ribbon caught by appliques
of tiny blue flowers and the
blue chiffon skirt was banded by
a deep ruffle. They wore rib-
bons and flowers in their hair
and carried small nosegays of
blue sprayed miniature carnat-
ions with white daisies.
Paul Cundy, Toronto, was
best man. Ushers were Blaine
Stephenson, Varna and Bill
Rathwell, London.
Prior to her wedding, the
bride was honored at showers
given by the bridesmaids at the
home of June Falconer; by the
Varna 4-H club at the home of
Mrs. Joyce Dawson; by the
community at Varna Hall; at
the home of Mrs. D'Arcy Rath -
well for the aunts and cousins
of the groom; and she was pres-

school program of the Huron
County Board of Education in
two areas. The first, "Preparat-
ion for Parenthood" and the
second, "Family Living" sem-
inars.
Dr. Mills stated that the
"Preparation for Parenthood"
classes scheduled for the night
school timetable will replace
the previous so-called prenatal
classes which were conducted
throughout the county. "Prep-
aration for Parenthood" classes
will be conducted in each of
the county's secondary schools
where night courses are avail-
able and will be taught by the
public health nurse for that area
with the assistance of various
resource personnel. The pres-
entation of this series of classes
in seminar -type discussion
groups, in conjunction with the
Board of Education night .
school courses, allows for bet-
ter timing of the course for the
expectant mother and father,
in a centralized location and
integrated with the other com-
munity night education courses.
The second series of present-
ations, "Family Living" semin-
ars, will also be taught by the
area public health nurse (in all
secondary schools) and will be
presented on a separate evening
to that of the "Preparation for
Parenthood" series to allow
attendance at both, if desired.
This series will make use of
resource personnel from varied
fields as well asthe nurse instruct

instruction to all age groups in
such important areas as safety

in the home, accident prevent-
ion, first-aid care for acute
emergencies, practical home
nursing and generally the essent-
ials of healthful, happy living.
The intent of the Health Unit
in providing these two courses
is to help people to a better
understanding of child develop-
ment ( in the "Preparation for
Parenthood" classes) and a
source of practical information
and open discussion in the
"Family Living" classes.
