Bayfield checks fireworks

• Regular Bayfield Council
meeting was held in the Coun-
cil Chambers, Monday evening,
September 18, with the reeve
and all councillors present.
A Letter received from A. Earl
Pounder, requesting dirt to fill
beside the driveway, was held
in order for council to inspect
the property in question.
A letter was received from
Grand Bend Council asking if
Bayfield has a by-law banning
the sale of fireworks in the area.
Council will answer their request
by informing them that they are
awaiting word from the Assoc-
iation of Municipalities of Ont-
ario who are presently investig-
ating this matter and who hope
to come up with Legislation in
the near future.
Council approved a request
from Len Apeidaile to hook
onto the. Reddock well for water
across Catherine Street, with
the motion that the water line
be tubed under the road; to be
cut by a saw no more than one
foot wide and to a depth of
four feet minimum. All costs
to be borne by the applicant
and the road be returned to its
original condition with hot -mix.
This work to be done under the
supervision of John Lindsay,
road superintendent.
Council discussed at length
a resolution from Clinton
town council that an investigat-
ion into the administration of
Justice be carried our, and dec-
ided, after reasonable consider-
ation, not to support the resol-
ution.
In other business the road
superintendent was instructed to
fix the corner of the road at
Bayfield Terrace and Emerick
Street; to install a catch -basin
on the north- east corner of
John and Jane Street in prepar-
ation for paving, They also
learned that the Senior Citizens
housing questionairres had been
distributed.
The next regular meeting of
council will be held Monday
evening, October 2 at 7.30 p.m,
in the Council Chambers.

ANGLICAN CHURCH GUILD
Trinity Anglican Church
Guild resumed their meetings
on Tuesday, September 12, at
the home of Mrs. R,L. Larson,
presided over by the vice-pres-
ident Mrs. R.Roy Fitzsimons.
The Rector, opened the meet-
ing by reading a scripture lesson
and the repeating of the Lord's
Prayer in unison. Eight members
andone visitor, Mrs. Harry
Baker, were present. The Guild
was happy to welcome Mrs. Fred
Hulls as a new member.
The secretary, Mrs. L. W.
Scotchmer gave her report of
the June meeting which was
approved.
Cards of thanks from Mrs,
Cathy Sauve, Mrs. Myrtle
Pease and Mrs. Audrey Florian
were read and approved for filinf
Mrs. R. Roy Fitzsimons,
cards and flower secretary report-
ed on cards and flowers sent to
friends since the last meeting
in June. Mrs. Merton Merner,
treasurer, gave her report and
all outstanding bills were paid.

rash of accidents

Crediton skidded out of control
and hit a fence. Drivers sust-
ained lacerations to his face.
The second accident involv-
ed vehicles driven by Hubert
Hunter, R. R. 3, Exeter,
and Edward Rowland, of St.
Marys, and happened on the
6 and 7th concession of Usborne
Township. The vehicles collid-
ed at an intersection south of
County Road No. 6 and Hunter
received lacerations. Total
damage listed at $1250,

Exeter parents
An Exeter couple received
word last week they will receive
a posthumous bravery award on
behalf of their daughter.
Through the efforts of Huron
M.P. R. E. McKinley, Mr. and
Mrs. John Moddejonge will
receive a bronze medal, cert-
ificate and a cheque for $500
from the Carnegie Hero Com-
mission of Pittsburgh, Pennsyl-
vania.

Their daughter Geraldine was
cited for bravery in a drowning
accident near Parkhill several
years ago when she and Janet
Guenther of Shipka lost their
lives during a South Huron
District High School camping
trip.
The award lists Geraldine
Moddejonge as displaying ex-
treme bravery in attempting
to save the life of the Guenther
girl.
