storm. And you can substitute
another consonant for the "d"
in dart, if you wish.
You can't blame the high
schools, who do what they can
with an. ever-increasing mass of
illiterates. What the hell, what
does it matter if a brilliant
science student, or a math stud-
ent who will be working with
slide rule and computer, writes
a sentence like, "Everyone
should have a good education so
they can go to coIXXX collegxx
collitch and make a lodda
bread"?
People worry about literacy
falling into the hands of an
elite group. In my opinion, it
would be the best thing that
could happen to English. It
would take us back to the glor-
ious days of the Elizabethans,
and let the slobs fall where they
may.

CHILDREN's BICYCLES
Choosing a child's bicycle
can be very difficult. The
high rise handlebar/long seat
type is one of the big sellers,
and therefore much cheaper and
more attractive.

Use care in
use of mowers
A smooth well -trimmed lawn
is one of the most attractive
aspects of a home's landscaping.
In spring, the grass is thick and
cutting the lawn is a tedious job.
For the rest of the season it is
enough to cut the grass once a
week. However, that first time
is rough going as well as the
most dangerous, says Dal Wright
Farm Specialist, Ontario Minist-
ry of Agriculture and Food.
With carelessness on your part,
a lawn mower can become
a deadly enemy.
Clean up all the debris that
has gathered over the winter. A
lawn mower may pass over
branches and stones, but it is
possible that the debris will be
shot out of the discharge chute
with enough force to cause
serious injury. Keep your feet
away from the mower platform.
A running mower is a hazard
around children. Shut off the
lawn mower if you have to leave
it. Children may try to imitate
you and injuries can result.
Teach them to treat the mach-
ine with respect.
Make adjustments only when
the lawn mower is shut off. If
the discharge chute becomes
plugged, stop the machine. The
loss of a finger or an eye is not
;forth it. Pulling out the plug
on an electric mower or remov-
ing the spark plug wire is cheap
insurance against an accident.
