Do not use galvanized pails or tubs to prepare or store foods, advise food specialists at the Ontario Food Council. Any food, particularly if it is acidic (such as tomatoes and fruits) may dissolve enough zinc from the container to cause symptoms of zinc poinsoning. Zinc, in its pure form, or in the form of galvanized iron, is used to snake containers that consumers are often tempted to use for cooking. Galvanized pails or tubs are large and conv- enient to use for lemonade punch at a community picnic or NOTICE TO CREDITORS rn the Estate of ANNA OLIVE THIEL, deceased All persons having claims against the estate of Anna Olive Thiel, late of the Village of Zurich, in the County of Huron, who died on May 24, 1972, are required to file particulars of same with Bell & Laughton, Solicitors, of Exeter, Ontario, by the 24th day of June, 1972, after which date the estates will be distributed having regard only to those claims of which notice has been received. BELL & LAUGHTON Solicitors for the Executrix, Exeter, Ontario. when preserving large quantities of fruit or vegetables. Consum- ers are advised not to follow this practice. Small amount of Zinc are normally present in the human body, and some zinc is fouond in the average daily diet. Exc- essive amounts of zinc, however, can result in nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, rapid pulse and weakness. The amount of zinc dissolved from the container depends on the acidity of the food. The weak acids used or formed during cooking can dis- solve sufficient zinc to cause these symptoms. This includes food products such as milk, Vinegar, alcoholic beverages, soup, and olive oil. Foods such as tomatoes, apples, or lem- onades are higher in acid and create a more serious problem. If consumers have cooked foods in galvanized containers they should discard them. If considerable expense would be caused by discarding the prod- uct, a private laboratory can be contacted to determine the level of zinc in the food. 0 Consumers' Association of Canada reports that the latest figures show a 7. 8'/0 increase in infant and toddler car accid- ents since 1968. Parents are reminded that baby car beds are never to be used as safety seats and that belly -band harn- esses are unsafe.
