Zink FIye s win two big games

During the past week the
Zurich Flyers posted two vier-
ories and suffered one loss in
the South Huron hockey League.
Last Thursday night the Flyers
travelled to Huron Park where
they edged out the Centralia
College, 3-1. On Friday night
the Flyers played in !lease11
where they were downed by a
convincing, 0-5 score. Sunday.
afternoon Hensall returned the
visit and were edged out by a
4-2 margin.
Paul Corriveau started things
rolling, for the Flyers on Sunday
afternoon when he scored on
a play from Aubrey Bedard and
Gerald Shantz. Ten minutes
later Barry Bloch scored a goal
from the point, which was
assisted by Gerald Shantz, to
give them a 2-0 lead. Before
the period ended, however,
Craig Chapman put Hensall
back in the game when he
scored on a play from team-
mate 13111 Chipchase,
In the only scoring of the
second period, Zurich again
went ahead by a two -goal lead
when Glen Overholt banged in
a pass from Ron Desjardine and
George Suplat to give them a
3-1 lead.
llensail opened the scoring
in the final period at the 14.23
mark when Bill Taylor capital-
ized on a neat play to put lien -
sail back in the game. Less
than a minute later, Bob Mern-
er scored the insurance marker
for the Flyers with Bob Johnston
drawing an assist.
A total of nine penalties
were handed out in the game,
with three of them going to
llensall and six to Zurich.

Last Thursday night the Zurich
Flyers travelled to I futon Parl<
to play the Centralia College
team, and handed them a 3-1
defeat.
Neither team managed to
come up with a scoring play
in the first period with both
goalies coming up with some
excellent saves.
Centralia College opened
the scoring at the 8.00 min-
ute mark of the second period
when Terry Millman put the
students in front 1-0. With less
than a minute left in the second
period, Barry Bloch scored on
an unassisted play to put Zurich
back in the game, ending the
middle stanza with a 1-1 tie.
Early in the final period, Bob
'Farquhar scored on a play with
Bob Merrier drawing an assist,
to put the Flyers in front 2-1.
Before the midway nark of
the period, Aubrey Bedard put
Zurich in front by two goals
when he scored on a play from
George Suplat, which gave
Zurich a 3-1 victory.
There were only six minor
penalties called with each team
drawing three.

Last Wednesday night the
Flyers played in Hensall and
were handed a stunning 9-5
defeat.
In the only scoring play of
the first period, Craig Chap-
man shot Hensall into a 1-0
lead on a goal that was assisted
by Gary Kyle and Bruce Horton.
Before the 3.00 minute mark
of the middle stanza two unan-
swered goals by Bill Chipchase
put llensail in front 3-0. At
the 5.10 mark of the same
period Bob Farguhar scored an
unassisted goal to put Zurich
on the scoreboard. Ten minutes
later Gary Kyle scored to put
Hensall ahead 4-1, Within 40
seconds before the period ended,
Bob Johnston scored two quick
goals and George Suplat added
a single to tie the game at
4-4. At 19.35 Craig Chapman
shot the Cascades ahead 5-4 to
end the second period scaring.
Ken Smale put his team ahead
6-4 early in the final period
on a play originated from Char-
lie Schwalm and Bob Carlile.
Bob Merrier then shortened the
lead to one goal again, when he
tipped in a pass from Bob Johns-
ton.
Three more single goals by
Bob Goetz, Craig Chapman and
Bob Carlisle before the final
period ended, convinced the
fans of a victory for Hensall.
A total of thirteen penalties
were called with Hensall draw-
ing eight and Zurich five.
The only big action in the
South Huron Hockey League
this week is on Sunday after-
noon, when two arch -rivals,
Dashwood Bears and Zurich
Flyers, tangle in the local ice
palace,
Following the Sunday aftern-
oon contest, the Flyers will
not see action until Boxing
Day, December 27, when they
host the same Dashwood Bears,

Honor ball teams
at Dashwood
Some 160 ball players and
fans enjoyed a turkey dinner
Saturday tight at the commun-
ity centre catered to by the
Women's Institute. The mothers
of the players provided the des-
sert.
Following dinner, Master of
Ceremonies Jack Riddell capably
entertained the group and int-
roduced all the coaches who in
turn introduced their prize teams,
Crests and trophies were accepted
by the deserving groups.
Draws were made for gift tok-
ens donated by the business men.
Winners were Ron 1lartrnan, Don
Geiser, Mrs. Harold Finkbeiner,
Irvin Rader, Wayne Riddell,
Cassey Desjardine, Mrs. Jack
Geiser and Ed Holobuwicz.
