The prelude, "The Holy City" was an inspiring int- roduction to an hour of carol singing and narration. A bank of gaily light$d Christ- mas trees provided the foreground setting. With lights dimmed and candelabra glowing, the candle- light processional was led by the intermediate Girl's Choir, direct- ed by Miss Meda Surerus, follow- ed by the Senior Choir, directed by Mrs. Milton Desch. Mrs. Newell Geiger, as nar- rator, outlined briefly the history and significance of each carol and composer. Six girls from the Junior Church School present- ed the Christmas Story, as found in Luke, and sang a Christmas song. The congregation joined the choirs in singing the recessional carol hymn, "Joy to the World." The prelude, offeratory and post lude were performed excellently The annual Christmas fair, an event which gives the resid- ents an opportunity to do some Christmas shopping was held on Monday. Each resident is given a credit slip to select gifts from the several tables which are arranged in the craft room with tea and cookies served in the auditorium. This project is sponsored and arrang- ed by the Women's Auxiliary with contributions from various organizations. Members of the CNIB were guests at the regional Christmas party which was held on Wed- nesday evening in the Mitchell United Church. George Ilark- ness introduced the numbers which included a guitar duet by Wendy and Debbie Busley; accordian solos by Barbara Hark- ness, a two -act play "Wanted a Housekeeper, " several Christ- mas numbers and a sing -a -long by the Chorus of twenty young people. Miss Frances Inglis, a memb- er of the McIntosh WCW, exp- ressed the appreciation of the residents. The Family Night program will be held on Wednesday, quit work happily! Obituary CLAYTON ORTWEIN A well-known Zurich area resident for most of his life, Clayton Jacob Ortwein passed away in South Iiuron hospital, Exeter, on Thursday, Decemb- er 9, in his 70th year, He was bron in Hay Township on Nov- ember 14, 1902, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ortwein. Except for some years lie work- ed in Windsor and Ottawa, he spent most of his time in this area. Surviving are six sisters, Mrs. Milton Deitz, Zurich; Airs, Walker Haines, Dearborn; Airs, Mildred Cora, Dearborne; Mrs. Charles Flegman, Maine; Mrs, Winnifred Anderson, Freelton; Mrs. Clarence Fahner, Crediton; and two brothers, Ray, Galt, and Eldon, Zurich. The body rested at the West- lake funeral home, Zurich where the funeral service took place on Saturday, December 11, at 2 p.m. with Rev. J. Huether officiating.
