One of the worst storms in
history swept over this area on
the weekend and caused consid-
erable damage.
For the third time in recent
months burglars descended on
Exeter, this time breaking into
the store of Jones and May,
where they took a large amount
of merchandise. They only
found one dollar and some
change in the cash register.
R. W. Weber conducted a
harness shop in. Hensall for the
past few months, has sold his
stock of harness, etc., owing*
to i11 health. The village regrets
losing the services of Mr. Web-
er, since they need a harness
maker so badly.
The U.F,O, shipped a
car of cattle from Ilensall last
Saturday. Alex Munn, who
looks after the shipping for both
Hensall and Zurich, reports the
highest prices being paid in
many months. He sold for John
Manson for 9 cents a pound; and
two heifers from John Armst-
rong for eight and three quarters
cents a pound.
The reeve and councillors in
the village of I lensall are accept-
ing pay for their services this
year; the reeve will get $40 and
the councillors $23 each.
Miss Nellie Ducharme of
Montreal is visiting her parents
Air. and Mrs. Joseph Ducharme
of Drysdale, for a few days
this week.

Motor accidents in Ontario
still continue to take a heavy
toll of life and property, the
report of the provincial motor
vehicles branch for October
shows, there were U0 persons
killed, 974 injured and prop-
erty damage amounting to $120,
402 caused.
Judge T.M. Costello of God-
erich presided in the town hall
on Monday when a Court of
Revision was in order,
Mr. Harold Walker, who for
the past three years has been
teller at the local branch of
the Bank of Montreal has rec-
eived notice from headquarters
that he is being shifted to Wind-
sor.
The many friends of Mr.
Henry Koehler are pleased to
learn that he is improving nicely
after taking some radium treat-
ments at Dr. Moir's Sanitoriunl
at Hensall.
Mr. Gilbert Ducharme, who
has been visiting with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. David
Ducharme, returned to his duties
at Detroit, on Sunday afternoon.
25 years ago
On Wednesday of last week
the Zurich Fire Brigade was
called to Grand Bend to the
home of Mr. Thomas Love. The
lower part of the building and
all surrounding buildings were
saved,
A real thaw visited these parts
over the weekend, but it is now
cold and heavy snow flurries.
Gunner Vincent Smith has
returned hom from overseas
after four years of active serv-
ice, and is now vacationing at
the home of Mr. and Mrs,
Joseph Foster, on the Babylon
Line.

Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong
and daughter of Stanley Town-
ship, have moved to the farm
on the Bronson Linc, which
they recently purchased from ;'Ir.
Keith Westlake.
Air. William Jennison, of
the Bluewater 11/gins-ay south,
last week left for Winnipeg,
where he will attend the funeral
of his brother-in-law.
Mr. \'a lentine Becker was
elected for a two year terns as
a member of the Dashwood pub-
lic school board.

Miss Donna Desch is progres-
sing favourably after an appen-
dix operation at the Clinton
Public Hospital on Monday.
Hog producers of Ilay Townshil
islet in the Ilay Township Hall,
Zurich, to launch the "open"
market campaign for flogs in
the Township.
Edgar Willert, R.R.1, Zurich
continues to be top member of
the Zurich Calf Club. fie scored
900 points this year, leading
the club in calf judging and
showmanship. In second place
with 889 points came 13i11 Elliott,
R. R.1, Zurich wlio won the
highest narks for answers, care
and feeding and monthly reports.
Two pointes behind Elliott was
John Erb, Zurich.
In celebration of their 30th
wedding anniversary, Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Russell of Hensall
had open house Wednesday
afternoon and evening.

A well-known resident of
Zurich for many years , Mrs.
Fanny Bender passed away in
St, Nlarys hospital, London,
on Monday, December 18, in
her 72nd year,
Ernie Fisher, the Mayor of
Goderich, related an inspiring
message to the members of the
Zurich and District Chamber
of Commerce, or local munic-
ipal government at the Christ-
mas dinner meeting last Thurs-
day night.
At the conclusion of choir
practice at Carmel Presbyterian
Church, Ilensall, Thursday
evening, a social hour was held
to honor Mrs. R.J, Cameron,
who is retiring from the choir
where she has been an active
member for a number of years.
Another new sub -division is
being started in Hay Township,
with the opening by Victor
Brisson and Leon Bedard of the
lake frontage behind Mr. Bed-
ard's farm, on the Bluewater
highway.
Relatives and friends gathered
at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Newell Geiger in Stanley Town-
ship, recently, to honour Mrs.
Mary Manson on the occasion
of her 80th birthday.

PROFESSIONAL ENTERTAINERS - Students at St. Boniface School in Zurich were treated to some
real professional entertainment last Thursday when a Stratford group, called "The Highwaymen, "
visited the school and presented several short numbers. Left to right are Ted Britton, Tom Stebing,
and Mrs. Ted (Christine Foster) Britton. Mr. and Mrs., Britton have both worked at the Stratford
Shakespearean Festival, while Mr. Stebing has played roled in the television program, "Adam 12."
The three are currently visiting many schools in.the area, working as a "children's theatre troupe, "
and are giving students a better idea of how professional actors perform.

A gaily decorated clubhouse
extended a warm welcome to
members of the Bayfield Yacht
Club and their guests on
the occasion of the 2nd annual
Christmas Party.
A social hour was enjoyed
prior to a sumptuous dinner of
Christmas delicacies. After
dinner, progressive whist was
enjoyed. Winners were: High
Score - Bill Talbot, Bayfield;
Low score - JoAnne Bullen,
Bayfield. A Christmas draw
was won by John D. Baker,
Seaforth.
Members were present from
London, Stratford, Exeter,
Seaforth, Clinton, Bayfield,
Zurich and Michigan. Ed
Pongracz of Grosse Pointe
City, Michigan came the
greatest distance.
Mrs. Donna Webster of
Exeter, who was in charge of
the entertainment and all
arrangements, was assisted
by Helen Davies, Clinton,
Lylyan Dinning Zurich, and
Edith Baker, Seaforth.
