PAGE 5 Golden Glimpses 1LI,IE WATER REST HOME • Although this weather is great for getting around and for sav- ing on the fuel bill, it does not do much for those of us who are too busy to catch the Christmas Spirit, so possibly we need a sprinkling of snow to give us a boost. By the time you read this column, Mr. and Mrs. Risi, Wendy and Michael will be visiting in Switzerland where they will be celebrating Christ- mas and New Years with Mr. Risi's family, and so all of us here wish them bon -voyage. Last Monday evening was film night, and pictures shown were "The First Canadian Winter Games, " and "Tides of Fundy." Because of the difficulty in pro - curring films over Christmas, the films will be suspended until after New Years. On Tuesday evening, the children from the Gospel Hall, Grand Bend, carne to entertain the residents. On Wednesday evening, the Zurich Girl Guides paid their annual visit to the Home to dec- orate their Christmas tree and sing carols for the residents. We thank the Zurich Lions Club for the treats brought to. the Home following the visit of Santa Claus to Zurich, also the Crediton United Women for the large supply of worn nylons. Our craft room people were very happy to receive them so that they could finish up some of their projects. The sympathy of the residents and staff goes to the family of the late Miss Margaret Jermyn who passed away in South Huron Hospital, Exeter, Mr, Murdock Morrison had charge of the Sunday evening chapel service. 0 SHDHS students win awards Two 1970-71 grade 13 students at South Huron District High School recently received special honours by receiving cash prizes from the Carter Scholarships. The scholarships, administrat- ed by the Ontario Department of Education go each year to three students in each county. Ann Herdman will receive $100 as the first prize in Huron and Don Jolly gets $40 as third prize. South Huron principal J. L, Wooden said this is the first time in several years that stud- ents from SHDIIS had received Carter awards. The scholarships are based on school marks with an emphasis in the mathematics area. VIRR, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Transport and Communications House of Commons, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A7 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS Use cheese for holiday en tertaiil iii g Cheese is the answer to holiday entertaining. At Christmas, too many nuts and 'goodies simply "go to waist". A cheese tray with fruits, crisp • crackers, and rye breads is a welcome change from the empty calories in nibblers and sweets. Cheese and wine are all-time favorites. A wide variety of cheese is now made in Ontario, but Cheddar still tops the list in popularity. Food specialists at the Ontario Food Council, Ontario Department of Agriculture and Food, suggest combining Cheddar and port wine in this tested recipe. It keeps well and can be made two to three weeks before serving. Flavors blend and mellow during storage. Sharp Cheddar has a more crumbly texture because it is aged longer and will make a smoother spread. PORT WINE POTTED CHEESE 1/2 pound medium or sharp Cheddar, finely grated 1 tablespoon port wine 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/4 cup port wine Combine grated cheese and 1 tablespoon port. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Cream cheese and butter. Gradually add 1/4 cup port, creaming until blended. Place in a pottery crock, cover and refrigerate. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 16, 1971 Bring to room temperature to serve. Makes 2 1/2 cups. The I.A, P.A. also suggests that you winterize your car. Then, winterize your driving techniques, and your determin- ation to avoid accidents. 8tD4 r General Contracting OWN HAY R NE ,,, BUILDING8RO` fO./ E4© and REMODELLING P ,Ilii,, WE WILL BUILD YOUR • BARN • GARAGE take care of your complete protect, including HEATING • ELECTRICAL WORK f .; , rMANREE MS QFGOYERNMENr "BLONDE, OR to., , HOME • COTTAGE Ona contract will PLUMBING • 2 Backhoes Available for Prompt Service Aluminum Doors and Windows STANDARD STOCK SIZE DOORS Only $38 Completely Installed Richard Beclard DIfIL 236'4679 ZURICH.
