ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS
BLUE WATER REST COME
Its beginning to be a lot like
Christmas around the Blue Wat-
er Rest Home. Christmas trees
and decorations are going up,
Mrs. Horn is busy making
shortbread and Christmas cake
and Santa has already made his
first visit here. Gifts and treats
are finding their way to the
residents, and this morning Mr.
Donald brought me a sample
of wild bramble jelly, direct
from Scotland, and it was del-
icious.
Last Monday evening, films
were shown, namely "Let's Tall
Hunting and "City Out Of Time,
describing the City of Venus.
On Wednesday evening, the
Ladies Auxiliary combined the
Christmas Party and birthday
party for the month. Those
celebrating birthdays during
December are Mrs. Dora Wag -
horn, Mr. Harold Gower and
Miss Mary Ann Steckle. Grand-
children of Mrs. Sarah Ginger-
ich and the Oesch Children
supplied the entertainment for
the evening. Santa Claus ar-
rived and presented each resid-
ent with a gift. Following the
program, a delicious lunch was
served. On Thursday evening,
the residents were pleased to
have the members of the Zurich
Band visit and provide them
with music for the evening.
We hope they will plan to
attend again in the not too dist-
ant future.
On Friday evening, bingo
was again enjoyed. At the close
of the bingo, Mrs. Jennetta
Finnigan and Mrs. Sarah Ging-
erich presented Mr. and Mrs.
Risi with a gift of money on
behalf of the residents. Mr. and
Mrs. Risi and family will be
leaving in another week to
spend Christmas and New Years
in Switzerland. Following the
presentation, coffee and a
beautifully decorated cake
complete with Santa and his
reindeer was enjoyed. Thanks
to Mrs. Horn.
Those of our number still in
South Huron Hospital, Exeter,
are Mr. Harold Gower, Miss
Margaret Jermyn, Mrs. Bertha
Hayter and Mrs. Emma Shep-
hard.
We are pleased to welcome
two new guests, Mrs. Gladys
Henry, of St. Marys and Mr.
Harry Burrell, also a former
St. Marys resident. Mrs. Burrell
has been a resident here for
sometime and we hope they are
happy to be together again.
On Sunday evening, .the
Chapel service was conducted by
Rev. John Huether of the Zurich
United Church. Mrs. Donna
O'Brien presided at the organ
and accompanied the soloist,
little Miss Pamela. O'Brien.

Rev. J. 'Huether presented
the topic, enlarging on. the
theme, "Christ comes to us in
our brothers."
The president conducted the
business. Two ladies were pres-
ented flowers having had their'.
eightieth birthday during the
month of November. Lunch
was served and a social half-
hour
alfhour was spent.
experiment
The last week of November
saw the arrival of three first
year students of the Social
Service Program operated from
the Doon Centre of Conestoga
College of Applied Arts and
Technology, Kitchener, at
the Huron County Children's
Aid Society. In the previous
two years the first year field
placement had been spread
over six weeks on a day per
week basis.
Weather conditions had pres-
ented problems and provision
of a learning experience for
the students had been somewhat
fragmented. As a member of
the Advisory Committee of
the Conestoga•Social Services
course, C.A.S. Local Director
B. Heath had indicated that an
experiment in block placement
was in order, and provision
was made for the County C.A.S,
to test out such a field exper-
ience before extending the
program elsewhere in the four -
County area served by Conestoga
"We feel that such an exper-
iment was well worthwhile,
and could be extended further
in the interest of providing as
comprehensive and intensive

an exposure to the actual empl-
oyment and work situation as
possible, " noted Heath. "Our
own use of staff personnel in
the field experience, and the
presentation of the one week
program were better co-ordin-
ated this year, and gave the
th. ,e students, Mrs. Margaret
Luck, Keith Goebel, and John
Gilbert, a better over-all view
of a social agency in general
and of this children"s Aid
in particular.
