Zuric lyers dump Huron Park.
Two -goal efforts by Bob Johns-
ton, Dick Bedard and Glen
Overholt supplied the punch
Zurich Flyers needed on Tuesday
night to down Huron Park 8-5
in South Huron Hockey League
action at the local ice palace.
For two periods the teams
battled i on even terms and
then in the third Zurich carne
up with four big goals while
holding the visitors to one.
Frank Funston shot Huron Park
into an early lead in the first
period when he beat Glenn
Gascho at the 5.50 mark. Four
minutes later, however, Bob
Johnston rifled in his first goal
to know the count at 1-1.
By the middle of the second
period the Flyers had banged in
three big goals to give them a
commanding 4-1 lead, only to
have the H.P. crew come right
back with three more to tie the
score at 4-4 by the end of the
stanza. Kevin McKinnon scored
first in the second period when
he slapped in a pass from Paul
Corriveau, and then Bob Merner
beat the visiting goalie with
Bob Johnston drawing the assist.
Johnston then scored his second
goal of the game on a passing
play with Merner and Overholt.
Terry Millman, Larry Brintnell
and Bob Pinter scored in that
order for the visitors.
At the .40 mark in the third
period the visitors went into a
temporary lead when Millman
scored his second goal of the
game, but then the Flyers
started off the fireworks on a

The highly rated Zurich
Midgets opened their season
on Monday night in Zurich and
came up with a convincing 8-2
victory over Grand Bend.
The game was only one min-
ute old when Gerald Weido and
Pat Bedard combined forces to
put Zurich in front 1-0. A goal
midway through the period
by Pat Bedard gave Zurich
a 2-0 lead at the end of the
first.
Grand Bend narrowed the
margin by one goal when 1 tarry
Smits scored an unassisted goal
early in the second period.
Rick Grenier gave Zurich a 3-1
n G nd Bend
lead before the middle stanza
ended.
Grenier scored his second
goal early in the third period to
put Zurich in front 4-1 before
Grand Bend came back with
their last goal, scored by Rod
Willett. Zurich then rallied
for four more goals to give
them their 8-2 victory. 13111
Webster, Dan Schilbe, John
Motnmersteeg and Gerald Weido
scored the four goals to give
Zurich their victory.
There were a total of fifteen
penalties called with Grand
Bend being handed nine while
Zurich drew six.

Last Wednesday night saw
the opening game of the Pee
Wee schedule when Grand
Bend edged Zurich 4-3 in a
closely fought battle.
The only scoring play of
the first period came at the
10.05 mark when Jeff O'Brien
scored on a play from Glen
ark, to give them a 1-0 lead.
Grand Bend bounced right
back in the middle stanza
with Ted Stanlake scoring to
tie the game at 1-1. Before the
period ended Danny Laporte
shot Zurich Ahead 2-1 on an
unassisted play.
Early in the third period
to Grand Bend
Rick Bedard gave Zurich a
3-1 lead scoring on a play
from Jim Oesch and Danny
Laporte. Zurich then fell
apart and Grand Bend came
up with three unanswered
goals to give them a 4-3 vict-
ory. Paul Baulk scored the
first Grand Bend goal which
made it 3-2. Ted Stanlake
then cane up with the goal
that tied the game. With less
than a minute left in the game
Jimmy Veneer and Ted Stan -
lake combined their efforts to
win the game for Grand Bend.
Each team received one
minor penalty throughout the
game,

ing an assist on the first one
and Paul Corriveau on the sec-
ond. Overholt scored his sec-
ond goal of the night at the
19,52 mark when he capitalized
on a passing play from Merner
and Jim Ramer.
Only six minor penalties
were handed out in the game,
with each team picking up
three of them,
In further South Huron Hockey
League action during the next
week, the Flyers travel to
Huron Park on Thursday night
where they tangle with the
Centralia College of Agriculture
team. On Friday night the
Dashwood Bears play host to
the Huron Park squad in the
Zurich Arena, and next Mon-
day night. the Zurich six travel
to Huron Park for a return
engagement. On Wednesday
night, December 8, the Zurich
Flyers invade llensall home ice
to try and knock off the league -
leaders.

Zurich Bantams tie Mitchell

Minor hockey is off to anoth-
er long season with all the
Zurich teams seeing plenty of
action.
In a league opener last Fri-
day night the Zurich Bantams
played to a thrilling 3-3 tie
with a very strong team from
Mitchell.
The game got off to a slow
start with neither team finding
range for a goal in the first
period.
Things opened up in the
middle stanza when Derek
O'Brien finally came through
with a goal for Zurich shortly
before the period ended. That
was the only scoring of the
second period, leaving Zurich
with a slight 1-0 edge going
into the final period.
Three quick goals by Mit-
chell early in the third period
put them out in front, 3-1.
Goals for Mitchell were ac-
counted for by Murray Elliott
with a pair and Doug Deitz
adding the single marker.
Zurich was able to come back
with two unanswered goals by
Derek O'Brien and Barry 1 -less
to tie the game at 3-3.
There were only eight minor
penalties called in the game
with five going to Mitchell
while Zurich drew only three.
GRAND BEND 4 - ZURICH 3
In the second game of the
season on Monday night, Zuric]
fell in the hands of Grand Bend
when they were edged out by a
close 4-3 margin.
In the only scoring in the
first period Grand Bend took a
1-0 lead on a goal by Mike
Desjardine while Phil Panet
and Scott Green drew the
assists,
The second period was only
50 seconds old when Zurich
bounced back with a goal
by Fred Mommersteeg on a
scoring play from Wayne
Clarke and Danny Turkheim.
Before the period ended Zur-
ich came back with the go-
ahead goal off the stick of
Greg Love. Barry Hess drew
the assist on Zurich's second
goal.
Grand Bend carne back
strong in the final period with
two goals by Cameron Haist
before the five minute mark
to push them in front 3-2.
Near the midway mark of the
period Zurich found range for
the tying goal, which carne
off the stick of Wayne Clarke.
However, before the period
ended Cameron I-iaist came
upwith his third goal of the
game to give Grand Bend a
4-3 victory.
There were twelve minor
penalties called with Grand
Bend drawing ten while Zurich
only drew two.

the car to the garage?" he askec
"Yes, I thought so too, "
answered his wife, thoughtfully,
