HomeMy WebLinkAboutZurich Citizens News, 1971-12-02, Page 11THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1971 ZURICI•I CITIZENS NEWS , PAG E 11 Veteran correspondent for Hensall retires position After many years of devoted service to the residents of Hen- sall and area as a news corresp- ondent for various newspapers, Mrs. Maude Hedden announced this week that she was retiring from the position, for health reasons. She has been a corresp- ondent for the Citizens News since it's inception in 1958. Taking over for Mrs. Hedden as correspondent for the Citizens News will be Mrs. Cecil (Joyce) Pepper, who has been filling in for her while she was in hospital. Mrs. Pepper has been a life-long resident of the area, living in the village of Hensall for the past nine years. Mrs. Pepper is an active memt er of the Hensall United Church, and is a leader of the Messeng- er group as well as singing in the choir. She is secretary of Unit II of the United Church Women, and also teaches Sunday School, In addition„ Mrs. Pepper is associated with the Brownie organization in Hensall. In accepting the appointment as news correspondent for Hen- sall and area, Ivirs. Pepper told the Citizens News, "I only hope the people will continue to give me the same fine co- operation that they have always given Mrs. Hedden. Her posit- ion is a tough one to fill, but if the people will co-operate with me I will try my best." Ivlrs. Pepper stressed the fact that it is not necessary for the people to bring the news to her house if they don't wish, all they have to do is give her a call at 262-2344. As well as all news items, Mrs. Pepper will also accept classified ads for the Citizens News. For Mrs. Hedden, retirement will see the end of a long and colorful career as a news cor- respondent in Hensall. As well as serving a number of weekly newspapers and a couple of daily newspapers, Mrs. Hedden has also worked with numerous radio and television stations throughout the area. She was always noted for being able to pick up a "scoop" from some of the top journalists in the bus- iness. Mrs. Hedden has just recently returned from South Huron Hosp- ital to her apartment in Hensall. pkgs.
