Veteran correspondent for
Hensall retires position
After many years of devoted
service to the residents of Hen-
sall and area as a news corresp-
ondent for various newspapers,
Mrs. Maude Hedden announced
this week that she was retiring
from the position, for health
reasons. She has been a corresp-
ondent for the Citizens News
since it's inception in 1958.
Taking over for Mrs. Hedden
as correspondent for the Citizens
News will be Mrs. Cecil (Joyce)
Pepper, who has been filling
in for her while she was in
hospital. Mrs. Pepper has been
a life-long resident of the area,
living in the village of Hensall
for the past nine years.
Mrs. Pepper is an active memt
er of the Hensall United Church,
and is a leader of the Messeng-
er group as well as singing in
the choir. She is secretary of
Unit II of the United Church
Women, and also teaches
Sunday School, In addition„
Mrs. Pepper is associated with
the Brownie organization in
Hensall.
In accepting the appointment
as news correspondent for Hen-
sall and area, Ivirs. Pepper told
the Citizens News, "I only
hope the people will continue
to give me the same fine co-
operation that they have always
given Mrs. Hedden. Her posit-
ion is a tough one to fill, but
if the people will co-operate
with me I will try my best."
Ivlrs. Pepper stressed the fact
that it is not necessary for the
people to bring the news to her
house if they don't wish, all
they have to do is give her a
call at 262-2344. As well as all
news items, Mrs. Pepper will
also accept classified ads for
the Citizens News.
For Mrs. Hedden, retirement
will see the end of a long and
colorful career as a news cor-
respondent in Hensall. As well
as serving a number of weekly
newspapers and a couple of
daily newspapers, Mrs. Hedden
has also worked with numerous
radio and television stations
throughout the area. She was
always noted for being able
to pick up a "scoop" from some
of the top journalists in the bus-
iness.
Mrs. Hedden has just recently
returned from South Huron Hosp-
ital to her apartment in Hensall.
