Bayfield council buys grader
Bayfield Village Council
met in the Municipal Building
with Reeve Oddleifson, all
councillors, Ted Gozzard, Don
Warner, Reg Yorki and Frank
McFadden, clerk Gordon Grah-
am, and road superintendent
Mr. John Lindsay present.
The minutes of the last reg-
ular meeting and a special
meeting were read by Clerk
Graham.
A request from Mr, Harry
Baker for permission to install,
a water line to the Anglican
Church Parish Hall was granted.
The village has purchased a
used grader from Dominion
Roads Machinery Company,
Goderich for the sum of $9,187
(nine thousand one hundred
and eighty-seven) tax included.
Mr. Jack Sturgeon approach-
ed council with a request to
purchase the South approach
above the abutment of the old
bridge. Reeve Oddleifson said
this land is an approach to the
river belonging to the village
and is not for sale. Council is
presently in the process of ap-
proaching the Federal and Prov-
incial Governments to allow
the village to control the app-
roach to the river for develop-
ment and planning for the use
of dockage space for the village
The village owns sixty-six feet
of land on each side of the riv-
er which were the approaches
to the old bridge. When an
agreement is reached with the
governments, an open meeting
is planned (for everyone inter-
ested in the harbour) to control
the orderly development of the
harbo ur.
The correspondence was read
by the clerk and a letter from
the Provincial Government allot-
ing the sum of $1500 to the
village for a winter works In-
centive Program.
The next two council meet-
ings will be held Monday even-
ing November 29 at 7.30 p.m.
and Monday evening Decemb-
er 13 at 7.30.p.m.
The Huron County Social
Service (Welfare Assistance)
will be administered by a cent-
ral : office in Goderich after
January 1, 1972. Council was
informed of this by letter.
December 2 from 2-4 p.m.

mittee on Election Laws will
be held in the City Hall in
London.

A $700 loan was advanced to
the Community Centre for rep-
airs to the building.. The Comm
unity Centre is owned by the
village and the Community
Centre Board is comprised of
three members of council, one
Lions Club member and one
other.
Councillor McFadden, treas-
urer moved that all bills be
paid, the motion ',las seconded
by Councillor York and carried.
Top soil is to be put on top
of the loose gravel on Catharine
St, and work on the covering
of the excavations of catch
basins on Tuyll Street is to start
immediately by the Town Fore-
man.

elect officers
The Annual meeting of the
Huron New Democratic Party
Riding Association was held at
Brucefield last week.
The following officers were
elected for the 1972term;
president, Shirley Weary, vice-
president, Herb IQopp; secret-
ary, Shirley Dodds; treasurer,
Stan Profit; Organizer, C.
David Weary; provincial coun-
cil delegate, Paul Carroll,
In other business, the exec-
utive formulated plans for the
membership drive. The newly -
elected president, Shirley Weary
stressed the necessity of a vigor-
ous follow-up to the highly
successful campaign. "It is imp-
ortant that we maintain the
contacts established with our
many new supporters, " she
stated.
The membership directed the
new executive to plan a social
evening in December for memb-
ers and supporters. An invitation
will be extended to party not-
ables from the NDP caucus.
