Zurich Couple married 50 years ago
MR. and MRS, ALFRED MEIDINGER, CENTRE, WITH ATTENDANTS OF 50 YEARS AGO
Saturday, November 6,
marked a happy occasion for
a popular Zurich couple, Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Meidinger,
when they were honoured by
members of their family, rel-
atives and friends on their 50th
Golden Wedding Anniversary.
High Mass was celebrated at
three o'clock in the afternoon
at St. Boniface Roman Cathol-
ic Church, conducted by
Father A. Durand assisted by
Father A. Robert, of St. Peter's
Church, St, Joseph. A high-
light of the church ceremony
for the couple was the present-
ation by Father Durand of a
certificate from Pope Paul the
Sixth, bestowing the Papal
Blessing of the Holy Father on
them. Grandchildren of the
couple sang the mass.
Later in the afternoon a
family dinner was held at the
Zurich Community Centre,
and in the evening a reception
in the Community Centre was
attended by several hundred
relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Meidinger
were married at Sr. Peter's

lie Bedard.
Following their marriage
the couple farmed on the
Bluewater Highway for a num-
ber of years, before moving
to the Bronson Line in Hay
Township, where they spent
most of their married life.
About five years ago they
moved to Zurich, where they
are enjoying their retirement.
Mr. and Mrs. Meidinger
were blessed with a family of
ten children. They are Roman,
R. R. 2, Zurich; Mrs. Paul
(Marguerite) Jastin, Detroit;
Mrs. Clem (Theresa) Regier,
R. R. 2, Zurich; Leo, Zurich;
Ivan, Zurich; Stephen, Zurich;
Mrs, Lloyd (Virginia) Denomzm
Zurich; Mrs. Gerard (Mary)
Ducharme, R, R. 2, Zurich;
Mrs. Phil (Martha) Verkruten,
Blenheim; and Mrs. Cyril
(Anne) Hartman, Thorndale,
There are also 46 grandchild-
ren, and two great grandchild-
ren.
Mr. Meidinger also has
three sisters, Mrs. Philip
Masse, Zurich, Mrs. Vincent
Jeffrey, Detroit, and Mrs.
Dennis Ducharme, Zurich, as
well as one brother, Alex, of
Zurich, all living.
An added pleasure for the
happy couple on their anniver-
sary day was the fact that they
had their best man and brides-
maid of 50 years ago with
them for the day. They are
Mrs. Dennis Ducharme, a
sister of the groom, and Remi
Denomme, both of Zurich,
Along with the certificate
from the Pope, Mr. and Mrs.
Meidinger also received a
certificate from the Province
of Ontario, along with congrat-
ulatory messages from Prem-
ier William Davis, of Ontario,
Prime Minister Pierre Elliot
Trudeau, Hon. CS. Mac -
Naughton and Robert E. Mc-
Kinley, Huron MLA and MP.

What's New
At H rronview
It was standing room only in
the auditorium on Friday after-
noon for the annual Halloween
party. Several residents and
staff in costume led the parade
to music by the Huronview
Orchestra assisted by Mr. and
Mrs. Bert Finlay, of Goderich.
Following an hour of dancing
and games, apples, candies, and
cookies were served.
A group of Young People
from the Christian Reform Churct
provided special musical numb-
ers at the Sunday evening song
service led by Dick Roorda,
Members of the Senior Citiz-
ens Club by Goderich joined
the residents for an afternoon
of progressive euchre and games
on Wednesday. Twelve tables
of euchre were played with
Francis Inglis and Charles Jeffs
sharing high scores. Concellation
winners were Mrs. McKay and

Tom Clark,
Communion services were
held in the chapel this week
with Rev, Russell of the Anglic-
an Church officiating on
Thursday morning and Father
Kelly, Clinton, on Friday
mornings.
The Seaforth Junior Farmers
arranged the entertainment for
Family Night with the president,
Keith Williamson introducing
the program. The Junior Farm-
ers Choir directed by Rev,
Dickin of Walton sang several
selections; there were vocal
numbers by the Henderson sisters
Darlene, Donna, and Debbie;
duets by Grace Campbell
andauth Townsend, Irma Price
and Evelyn Storey; solo by
Graham Craig; step dancing
by Bill and Murray Henderson;
and square dancing by the Jun-
ior Farmer set with Mrs. Orville
Storey calling, Accompanists
for the program were Airs. Hend-
erson and Irma Price. Miss
Gray thanked the entertainers
on behalf of the residents.
